I would like to replace the female speaker with a male

1. Press Tools, then press Settings, then press Language. Press Voice and change it to the one you want. You can also download more voices if there's not one there that you like.
2. Connect your satnav to your computer. Download and install webupdater from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 When it's installed it will look for updates to your software. After this it will give you the option to download voices. Click on the ones you want and press NEXT. They will be downloaded to your satnav. After you have disconnected your satnav from the computer you'll need to select a voice as described in paragraph 1 above.

Xl340s will not speak street names , street names on key board will not take sometimes. new unit out of box

You need to use a "Computer" Voice I believe Susan is the female option and Richard is the male option. Only the computer voices can read street names.

Not speaking street names

To get your TomTom to speak street names, you will need to change the voice from a recorded voice to a computer voice. This can be done by:
  • Connect your TomTom to your computer
  • When the TomTom asks do you want to connect to the computer, choose Yes
  • Open the TomTom Home application
  • Click on the 'Add Traffic, Voices, Safety Cameras, etc.' button
  • Click on the 'Voices' button
  • Click on the 'Computer Voices' button
You can now select a voice to install on the device.
Once you have installed a voice, change it by
  • Disconnect the TomTom from your computer
  • Turn on the TomTom
  • Touch the screen to bring up the menu
  • Touch 'Change Preferences'
  • Touch 'Voice Preferences'
  • Touch 'Change Voice'
  • Use the Left / Right arrows to navigate to the voice you just installed (Look for the word 'computer' in the upper right corner by the male/female option)
  • Touch the 'Select' button

Tomtom xl 330.s wont speek street names

Yes Nickarino is right.
When I switched on my new tom tom it gave me that option to speak street names and it vanished after selected a different voice. I checked all manuals and web references in Tom Tom - none of them list it.
Like Nick said - what you need to do is swtich the voice type to SAMANTHA and it will show the option "Read Street Names Loudly". I jumped on it and said yes ..!!!
Thanks Nick !!

Nextar x3 08 GPS -Can I change the female voice to a male voice?

You cannot modify the voice like you can for TomTom. You are pretty much stuck with the female voice if you want voice prompts.

Voice change nuvi 250w

There are some voices you can change, use the webupdater from garmin to see what they have on stock, and while you're there update the firmware too. Don't install stuff you don't need language wise....

Voice and car changes

In order to change your car icon apart from the icons that are already on it you must first download additional icons which are available from the Garmin.com Website and then transfer those from your computer to your Nuvi - see Page 21 of the Owner's Manual available by download from Garmin.com To change the voice touch Settings on the right side of your Main Scree which then provides 6 Sub Menus, one of which is Locale choose Locale and then the bar identified by the Set of Lips will allow you to change the language of the voice and from Male to Female (page 46 of the Owner's Manual)
