Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a 4-year-old Kenore Elite refridgerator that has rather suddenly stopped staying as cold as it used to. It's a side-by-side unit. The freezer, over the past year, has slowly been building up more and more ice, and I think there is a water leak because the bottom of the freezer is a solid block of ice. My ice maker stopped working last week, too, at the same time our fridge performance went down. Could something with the freezer be affecting my refridgerator? Help! Thank you so much in advance.

    Questions please....

1.) You stated that the freezer has slowly been building up more and more ice. Where is this accumulation at?

2.) Is there water in the ice maker?

3.)What are the temperatures in the freezer and refrigerator.

4.) Can you hear a fan running inside of the freezer? it may not be on unless the compressor is running.

5.) is there ice build up on the lower back wall panel of the freezer?

I have posted a link, it is a part drawing of your freezer air flow parts.

Please take off the back covers of your freezer part numbers 4 and 15 on the print.

    Click on the link http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdir...

You will see a part that looks something like a radiator back behind the covers. Is there ice built up on it?

You can start to thaw out the ice build up on the bottom of the drip pan with a blow dryer. Run a plastic hose down the drain line to unplug.Click on the video to watch how it is done.

The refridgerator side of my side by side subzero is not cod enough. the coils are clean..what do I do now? the freezer portion is cold but is producing ice at a very very slow rate. the refridgerator is...

You probably have a leak in the evaporator and there is not enough refrigerant left to cool properly. Sub Zero has a 12 year warranty so You may want to replace the unit. You need to call a servicer to check it out.

Fridge isn't cold

Hi,

if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak.

thanks,

Fridge does not stay cold

If the compressor is running continually, could be short of gas , or a compressor problem, ie not pumping properly, make sure it has plenty of ventilation

Refrigerator not cooling but freezer is

Something has stopped the cold air being ducted from freezer side to refrigerator side of things. Possibly duct blocked due to ice build up, evaporator not self defrosting etc. Turn unit off for a few days till it melts and then turn back on. If it was because a door has been left slightly open you will be ok. If for any other reason you will want to have it serviced in the next week or so.

Kenmore Elite bottom freezer refridgerator

I just went through this with my refridgerator and actually posted one of the questions. Here is what I found ........

In the freezer compartment behind the panel there is an evaporator fan which pulls cold air from the freezer and pushes it up into the refrridgerator compartment. If the fan is not working it is one of three things.. 1) there is so much frost in the fan area the fan blade is stopped and cannot push the cold air into the refridgerator compartment or the air channel is blocked. 2) there is no electricity going to the fan (usually tied to the door switch of the refirdgerator compartment, and 3) the motor is dead and will have to be replaced.

Solution to #1 - defrost but there is another problem in the "frost-free" part of the system which must be addressed or the frost will return and it will happen again in the future.

Solution #2 - check to see there is power to the fan. (most are 110VAC but some are 100VDC. Use a meter and check)

Solution #3 - If there is power, the motor is dead. Replace the motor. Be aware that AC and DC motors are different and replace per manufacture's specifications.

Refridgerator freezing food

dm, I'm not sure if the thermostat is mechanical or electronic. Assuming mechanical...and I do...turn it to the lowest number...does it turn off? If this works properly, the problem is likely not the control. Does the compressor turn off at any time? If not after an hour or so of operation, the stat could be defective. That's my first guess. Oh, have you made sure that you don't have the ducts in the freezer blocked? The would deflect too much cold air to the fridge section.

Next, defrost the unit and clean the condenser coils. This will help the unit work properly. Then, wait awhile with the unit off. Meanwhile, access the compressor in the rear of the unit. Find the largest pipe coming out of the compressor. Turn the unit on. The largest pipe should frost and then, in about 5 minutes or so...either cause condensation or dry out. If neither happens and the line is either not COLD to the touch or frosty, you're low on gas. If the unit is less than 5 years old, you may get warranty coverage on the sealed unit from the mfgr. Believe it or not, too little gas will cause freezing in some cases!

Refrigerator will not stay cold

Bought a second hand fridge that was running well. We layed the fridge on it's side for moving and let it stand upright for at least 4 hours. The moving was only 45 minutes. The freezer is semi-cold but the main body of the fridge stays at aprox. 68 degrees. Any solutions.
