The hdd or system password can not be over ridden. Type the correct password to start boot process or fit a new hdd and install your OS then you can restore your backups.

I have a scrolling bar on my laptop touchpad. gateway 7330gz. i recently had the OS upgraded and want to set the scrolling to work

Hello,

As you mentioned that you have updated OS, it is possible that the version of installed drivers for the touch pad are not compatible with the new OS.

I suggest you do is you go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers. Most manufacturers offer an online support for the different drivers / software required by the computer.

This link is the direct link to download the latest drivers for your computer:Touchpad Driver

> Click on the link and download the drivers.
> Meanwhile go on Control Panel> Add / Remove Programs and uninstall Synaptics.
> Once the download is complete, launch the newly downloaded driver installation.
> After the installation is complete, restart your computer.

The touch pad should have now recovered all of its features.

Glad to help.

Download all drivers off this page onto a Pen drive, memory card or DVD

and install. These are all the drivers for the laptop. Hopefully you have not changed the os to VISTA as these drivers seem to be for Windows XP. These may also work in vista.

Re-install Windows from the "System Restore" set of CDs/DVDs that came with the computer.

If you have lost those disks, you can order a replacement set from Gateway, for about $20 to $40.

The Gateway-modified version of Windows will re-install properly onto the Gateway hardware.

You can download a program called SIW for free, it's the top hit under google.

Check to see what the hardware chip is for the video card with SIW and then see if you can download a more current driver from the chips manufacturer.

Or you can also try using the custom windows update so that it searches for updated drivers as well.

If it's working under linux, it should work with windows once you've got the right driver.

I need to install drivers on an old HDD for an Asus K8V mobo.

Hi gordonal123, installing drivers through safe mode is not recommended. If you want windows to function correctly than do a fresh install of windows. Over writing the Gateway hdd will cause you more grief. Windows registry will go nuts.
Link to download the Asus K8V drivers.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
Here is what you need to do. Boot to your windows CD while using the Gateway system & hdd. Create a new partition within the free space of the Gateway hdd. (Follow windows onscreen instructions to create a new partition within the free space of hdd). (This will maintain the current windows function).
Restart windows when finished. Windows will create a second partition on the Gateway drive. Go to the Asus link above & download all the drivers for the K8V MB, onto the second partition of the Gateway hdd. Once downloaded & uncompressed into their own folders you can than boot to the windows CD & format the primary partition & install windows fresh onto the formatted partition. When finished you can install the K8V driver still located on the secondary partition. Copy & past these driver folders to your primary partition. Than use windows disk management software to erase / delete the secondary partition. (diskmgmt.msc).
When finished you'll have all the drivers for the K8V MB, no need to buy a PCI LAN card & more importantly a fully functioning windows with-out issues.

Good luck gordonal123!
Take your time.
Mike
