Cleaning Canoscan 9900F glass

Hello. Could you please describe the procedure for removal of the glass (or is it perspex) from the Canoscan 9900F in order to clean it both sides. I have had it done commercially, but this is too expensive. Please help. Thank you.

To be clear, it is quite easy to remove the glass, but you shouldn't need to even if you can see the odd bit of dust. However, if you do want to (voiding warranty etc.) here's how:

  1. unplug and remove lid
  2. use philips screwdriver, remove screws in the two recesses of the main scanner body that the lid hinges slot into
  3. gently pry the black plastic part away from the grey plastic body, starting near the glass until it tilts up and away. be careful of the clips at the back end of the scanner
  4. the glass panel and grey surround can then be lifted and slid towards the back of the scanner and pulled free.

Why didn't I see those two screws? I've been wondering about how to clean the underside of the glass for months. I have been getting streaky marks across scans of dark photos. Having removed the glass I tried to clean it using conventional glass cleaners, but there was still a "misty ribbing" effect left which coincided with the mark that I was getting on the scans. I then remembered that plastic gives off a contaminant as it degrades (this is responsible for much of the film on the inside of a car windscreen) . So a quick wipe over with Methylated Spirit and the film was gone. My scans are now streak free and I am delighted with the new lease of life that this excellent scanner has.

I am trying to connect my Canoscan 9900F to my Mac OS X 10.6.6 and the driver (is there one?) will not download although it says there is one on the website. The only thing I get is the toolbox.

You can download all the necessary software at this link. Pay close attention to the install and download instructions. These are dmg files and will self install on the Mac. Make sure to choose the right OSX version (Leopard, Snow Leopard, etc) I am a MAC user and tried the download and setup. It worked perfectly!

This site tells you only about the AC Adapter which you probably have unless you bought it secondhand.

Click on the tab for drivers and downloads, where you find scanning guide which you can download
Hope this will help.

I want to remove glas of CanoScan LiDE 25 Flatbed Scannerfor cleaning

Why? It shouldn't be dirty behind the glass. If the glass is dirty wipe the glass with a cloth dabbed in methylated spirits.

Canoscan 9900F isn't recognized by any of my Mac software

you could try looking in system profiler, to see if the scanner is even recognised by the system - if not it's a connection problem.

try connecting via firewire instead of USB (or vice versa)

otherwise, see if vuescan recognises the scanner.

Canon 9900f scanner glass removal

I would not worry about the underside of the glass unless you are having problems. The focal length of the ccd that captures the image is very specific and probably will not pick up anything under the glass. It is normal for the underside to look foggy but it will not hurt anything.
