My BMW 2002 starts out good in morning but when it gets warm or hot my transmission failsafe light comes on what can I do

BMW has been using electronically controlled automatic transmissions in most models since the late '80s. These transmission systems employ a transmission control unit which controls electrical solenoids to manipulate the various control and shift valves and functions in the transmission valve-body. When the transmission control unit detects a problem that it "thinks" could be damaging to the transmission or engine, it goes into a fail-safe or "limp" mode. In this mode, the transmission will function in reverse normally, but in forward it will operate in only one gear (whether you have the shifter in D, or any of the lower gears). This will typically be 3rd or 4th gear, depending on the model. It will start in this gear and stay in this gear with no shifting. You would experience this as sluggish acceleration and higher than normal engine speed at about 40-mph and above.
If you must drive the vehicle when the transmission is in the fail-safe mode, accelerate gently and keep the road speed lower than full highway speed.
Earlier models do not employ fault codes and must be diagnosed manually. Late models do employ fault codes and a diagnostic/scan machine can be used to check and read the faults to assist in diagnostics. Note that this is not your common OBD-II engine management fault code tool. This is what A BMW dealer or a properly equipped independent shop would have for full vehicle system diagnostics and coding operations.

Range rove 2004 is in engine failsafe mode is not starting?

You need an owners manual or access to factory
manuals to find out how many fail safes your vehicle has

Example: Electronic Throttle Control
Engine Over Temp
Transmission Failsafe
Misfire Fail safe to protect converter

Once you have checked for codes which I assume you have
done long ago,you use them as well as trouble charts to
diagnose things

What does it mean when the ETC engine failsafe signal is active

ETC-Electronic Throttle Control

You need to get the code to proceed

It could be a failed Throttle Actuator Motor,on thottle body ( Pray that is not the case) $600.00 part alone

Or a COP Ignition Coil---spiking PCM,signal coming back on TPS Sensor, causing the PCM to go into ETC Failsafe, because it can not determine throttle angle, once TPS is spiked.

You have a drive by wire,no cable to gas pedal, same as toyota

My fail safe engine mode light came on, what's the prolem and how can this be fix???

Its likely a sensor has failed , not allowing you
onboard computer to control everything.
The failsafe is meant to get you home or to the dealer.

Failsafe engine mode light on. reasons why. xj308 v8 1998

My 1999 Jag XJ8 did the same thing when the cruise control was activated (red button by the gear shift), but I wasn't actually using the cruise control. I deactivated the cruise control and the fail safe message no longer appears.

Fitted fail safe. but car shoots of on its own and does not respond to remote

Were you able to set up the failsafe? The ones that I have worked with have a set up procedure that you have to do when you install them. The best way to check the failsafe is without the engine running. Turn on power to transmitter and receiver, then turn the transmitter off. The failsafe should make the throttle servo engage the brake due to the loss of the signal from the transmitter. If the failsafe is not reacting then it may not be installed or set up correctly. If the failsafe is installed and set up correctly there is a possibility that it is faulty.
