I have a trutech pLV16320 LCD tv, do i need a converter box?

Hello
There is no details or user manuals in NET about your Trutech TV. If you have its owners manual with you now, go to its specification page, and see whether this TV have internal digital tuner or not. It will be speicied there. If there is internal digital tuner, you need not buy an external converter box. In not you have to. OK.

How can i watch cable tv.

I assume you are not trying to steal service, that you just want to use your cable signal on a TV without using a cable box. The NTSC (analog) and clear QAM (digital) signals will work on many recent TVs. Encrypted signal require a box from your cable company. BTW, the cable company are not allowed to encrypt local channels but will certainly do it for all premium channels and may do it for all digital channels except the locals. This assumes you bought a TV with QAM.

Is my TV digital ready?

I just checked in to this for you. I found a website about this exact television. Here is the link :

http://www.fcc.gov/eb/FieldNotices/2003/DOC-274084A1.html

It says that Target did not put up the appropriate notification on these TVs about them being only analog. You will need a converter box for this TV.

I have a Trutech PVS31170S1W LCD Tv,do i need a converter box?

Your tv is DTV ready, it has both an ATSC and NTSC tumer. You can recieve analog and digital OTA (over the air) signals.
You will need to connect an antenna and set the tuning band to AIR not CABLE..
I have provided a link with more information on DTV and Antenna's.

Trutech 17 LCD TV/VCR Tuner

If the TV was purchased as recently as 2007, then chances are decent that it DOES have the ATSC (digital) tuner. HOWEVER, I cannot confirm this for you on my end with the amount of information supplied. (Remember to include as much information as possible when inquiring, such as model numbers!)

HOWEVER...

If your set was sold as a "monitor", or an "HDTV READY" or "High Definition READY" set then indeed it will NOT have an ATSC tuner. If it was sold as an "HDTV" or "DTV", then it SHOULD have a digital tuner. This is based on my experience as lead TV tech at a local repair shop.

Take a look in the menus, and see what channels appear when you attempt to scan for them (assuming you are using an over-the-air antenna). Almost everywhere in the US now stations are already transmitting concurrently in digital and analog, and if you can receive the digital channels, you have a digital tuner! You can sometimes tell by the aspect ratio (widescreen, particularly on new programming, during primetime; be aware that smaller screen sizes usually are not widescreen). You can also tell if any of the channels received use a decimal or hyphen such as "channel 6.1 or 6-2" If you see this type of naming convention, you most certainly DO have a digital tuner.

Otherwise, you might consider how much you paid for the set- If it only cost you $150 brand new, or was on clearance, you probably do NOT have a digital television. Expect to pay well in excess of this amount for a digital TV. Hope this helps!! please comment with any additional ??'s and I will respond further as necessary until we know for sure what you have going on. Thanks for asking!

Can't get digital tv channels.

The W1700 is HDTV Ready but it does not have an internal digital tuner, it only receives NTSC coded signals, not ATSQ/QAM coded signals. In order to see tv in HD you will need an external tuner with component or DVI output that you can connect to the monitors inputs.

Ready for nat'l digital transition?

If it is an older model (i couldn't find anything on it either), it most likely does NOT have a QAM tuner. Be aware that only the "un-encrypted" cable channels will be free otherwise you will have to buy or rent the digital box from the company to get the rest of the regular digital channels. The un-encrypted channels are like 71.2, 83.7 so you should know if you are getting those or not.
