Sparks coming from motor

Sounds like the motor has gone on this. Get it checked out but it might not be economical to be repaired. It could cost at least 50.00 for the parts alone.

I have a DeWalt D55168 type 3 air compressor that the motor brushes keep sparking and smoking.

If the compressor is relatively new and performs well, it is probably not an issue. Brushes always spark on the commutator but without seeing the extent of the sparks it is hard to tell for certain if it is "too much" or not. I wouldn't expect any significant smoke from the brushes and commutator or the armature unless it is brand new and the oils from manufacturing are being burned off. If it is a very old machine, it is possible the armature is shorted out and needs to be replaced.

If, on the other hand, it is not brand new, but a couple years old, has had use, but not heavy and continuous and you just see small sparks coming from the brushes, then it is probably ok. If the sparks seem larger than what you are accustomed to and you are seeing smoke coming from the motor at all (presuming it is not the brand new situation noted above) then the armature may be starting to short out and/or the windings in the motor may be starting to burn out. Electric motors that are used within their design constraints (not overloaded, not run on low voltage, not run continuously if not designed for that use, not overheated) do not tend to burn out. However, if the windings get covered with sawdust (which insulates them), you run the compressor continuously for hours on end, day after day, especially in a hot environment and/or with low voltage, then you have probably overheated the windings and the motor is burning out. For a compressor of this size and quality, it would likely cost more to have the motor rewound than it cost to replace the compressor. Also, if it has failed from overly hard use, rewinding the motor will not prevent another burn-out, you need a larger, more durable compressor.

My Bosch table saw motor runs but sparks are coming out the back of the motor. I replaced the bushings and that didn't help. Please advise.

The sparks are most likely coming from the brushes and the commutator. This is an indication of either worn brushes or an armature that is failing and if used further, will burn out. First check the brushes and look at the condition of the commutator. These motors are known to be problematic.

Hello can you help me please? I have a Kirby G4 vacuum cleaner, It did work ok until it started to give off burning smell and lots of sparks from the brushes. I have changed these brushes, the motor still...

Some debris, even sand or dirt, probably got into the motor, causing damage to the armature. If this is the case, you will need to replace the motor. The burning smell from the motor is generally a sure sign of a bad motor.

There are sparks coming out of the motor housing. It is making a high pitched whine.

I'm sorry to tell you that the motor is more than likely done.

Generally you will have a burning smell associated with the sparks and whining. You can source a motor at your nearest hoover dealer, but depending on the age of the machine, you may just want to consider a new one. It is hard to say.

When using my panasonic 12v ey6409 drill there are sparks and smoke coming out at the rear, should I be concerned.

the tool with the brake will throw some sparks when it creates the short to stop rotation, but the SMOKE is an indication of a burnt motor and yes you should be concerned. Do you smell a burning odor when running if so the motor will soon fail.

Eureka canister vacuum cleaner Model 6865

The 6865 has a high rpm AMTEK Lamb motor, Brushes will seldom solve the problem at this stage.
Once the sparking and burning starts the conectiion between the brush and commutator is arcing and burning. If the sparks are blue, save your time.
A good service tech will run in brushes with a seating stone and a low voltage setup to allow new brushes to seat, but this is generally best accomplished on heavy duty , lower rpm motors.
IF YOUR ARMATURE IS SCRATCHY LOOKING OR WORN LIKE AN APPLE CORE,OR THE SEGMENTS ARE NOT PARALLEL IN THE SPACING YOU WILL NEED A NEW MOTOR.

My hoover dual v steamvac make loud noise and sparks

Be careful. This could be a shorted wire inside where the motor is. If there is sparks , something is exposed and touching. The motor also may be ready to give out. Unless your daring enough to open the whole thing up I would bring it to a shop or replace it.
