Hello From the Ryobi Chain saw RCS3535A the clutch cover lock knob is loose. To be precise the thread is gone inside. I would like to order a new one but can't find anywhere the part number and a company to order from in the UK. Can you help please. Thank you. Alvaro

SOURCE: Cant get clutch cover off new Husqvarna 235e chain saw

Mine did this when nearly brand new. You likely have a nasty jam of oil and sawdust stuck between the chain brake and the flywheel. It can be loosened by either careful prying of the case or precise shots of carb cleaner up in the housing. While you are in there look for a buildup of oil around the chain brake connection to the kickback paddle.

SOURCE: What is the gas to oil ratio for the Ryobi 10532

Fuel/Oil Mixture

  1. Use a quality 2 cycle oil and mix it to the OIL supplier's recommended ratio. Today I use Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed @ 50:1 in a Pioneer that I purchased new in 1980. There are no gouges or scratches on the piston or cylinder and I have no carbon build up on the piston top. The manual (on stone tablets) recommends 24:1. Over the years the mixture has leaned from 24:1 (Saw Recommendation) to 28:1 (Lawn boy mower recommendation) to 32:1 (Oil provider 8oz/2gal - used for many years) and finally the last 5 (±) years 50:1 (Stihl 2.6oz/1gal)
  2. Any fuel containing ethanol is not good with chainsaws. Mix what you expect to use within a few months. Anything over 6 months old use up in a 4 cycle engine. HTH

If there is no more adjustment on the bar yes you should buy a new chain, excessive chain stretch my be by over tightening the chain before use, the chain should be loose enough that you can lift the chain out of the bar a little bit you should be able to lift the chain far enough to see around one full link

Chains can bought at your local farm store the one for my saw cost around $15-$20.00

My chain keeps getting loose....is that normal?


On a new chain perhaps. One that has been in service for a while the stretch should be adjusted out. Not holding the nose of the bar up as you tighten the bar nuts is the usual cause of this malady.
Chain Adjustment
  1. Make sure the chain brake is off (gloves recommended).
  2. If necessary, loosen the bar nuts that are clamping the clutch cover in place (or whatever holds the clutch cover and bar on). They do not need these really loose - finger tight will do.
  3. Ease the tension adjustment until the chain is obviously loose.
  4. Using one hand, hold the nose of the bar up.
  5. While holding the nose up, adjust the tensioner so that the center of the chain just touches the underside of the bar, add a touch more.
  6. Continue holding the nose of the bar up & tighten up the bar nuts / bolts / quick-release system. HTH

The most likely cause is a loose chain.
Chain Adjustment
  1. Make sure the chain brake is off (gloves will protest your fingers).
  2. If necessary, loosen the bar nuts that are clamping the clutch cover in place (or whatever holds the clutch cover and bar on). They do not need these really loose - finger tight will do.
  3. Ease the tension adjustment until the chain is obviously loose.
  4. Using one hand, hold the nose of the bar up.
  5. While holding the nose up, adjust the tensioner so that the center of the chain just touches the underside of the bar, add a touch more.

Oiler not working


Had you provided the model number we could have provided a more complete answer. What little oil system routing detial there is resides on the IPL. It can be found here:

The numbers Homelite & Ryobi use don't match the numbers everyone posts. A careful inspection of your saw should find something that matches.

Oil System Plugged.
Remove the clutch cover, bar and chain. Clean the oiler hole and channel. Start the saw and see if it oils when revved up. If yes reassemble your saw.
If no a blunted, hooked piece of wire can be used to pull the hose in the oil tank out. I recommend the filter be replaced. Work your way through the linkage cleaning and replacing any defective parts as you go. Carefully check the hoses for cracks especially at connections. If equipped with an oil pump it is usually behind the clutch (probably left handed thread). Please make extensive notes & some digital pictures will help during reassembly. GL

Ryobi 18v circular saw owners manual - blade is loose!


Usually there is a button to press that locks the shaft arbor and then you use a wrench to tighten OFTEN is a left hand thread!

Check for lock button behind the blade guard toward the motor.

My ryobi chainsaw rcs 2040 keeps stopping but motor is still running, chain not moving!


RYOBI----- with the motor running at high revs the chain stops indicates that the sprocket behind the centrifugal clutch is worn out or the centrifugal clutch itself ,or the clutch shoes are worn out the way to tell is to remove the bar and chain and have alook where the chain was conected to the saw, i think you will see the sprocket is buggered and as that is attatched to the clutch drum that will have to be replaced along with clutch springs and shoes, i think you have been running the chain a bit too loose or not running it at realy high revs ,which is what they are designed to do ,cme back to me if you feel the need

I have a brand new Homelite Pro 46cc 20 in. chain saw. I have never even started it up. I cannot figure out how to open the Tool less clutch cover can ya'll help me?


Press in on the clutch cover lock knob and rotate

counterclockwise until the clutch cover can be
removed. You will see the arrow on the outer cover that will direct you in the right direction.
