The refrigerator has stopped running.

Hi there,
A fridge is divided by many parts. if the main motor dies then the whole fridge will not function. In your case the freezer is still working but the rest isnt. Still, i think you should have it checked out by a repairman to determine any inside problem and to avoid any future trouble.

Smeg Fab40 fan stopped working - there is a build up of ice at bottom right freezer.

There is an upgrade kit for the FAB40 to prevent ice build up which falls under the warranty for the FAB40. I've had it installed and it basically replaces the entire back of the inside of the freezer. Following the upgrade, my FAB40 would ice up completely, plugging the ducts to lead cold air to the fridge below. You can spot this syndrome by the water dripping throught the grate at the top of the fridge compartment. This is melted ice from the freezer ducts. SMEG has now sent their top guy, a drunk and pretty rude guy who replaced the whole backside again, and I'm hoping it will improve.

The bottom line is, SMEG is just ****. Very, very expensive ****. I invested about 10.000 dollars in SMEG equipment three years ago, and every single piece of machinery in my kitchen has broken and needed repair during that time. I deeply regret having bought stuff from them and next time I will definitely go with something different.

Freezer gets cold, upper refrigerator does not. Looks like there is an opening for cold air to come into the refrigerator, it isn't blocked. Air just isn't rising from freezer to fridge.

you have bad fan motor, located behind freezer wall, accessible from the front inside freezer, lots of disassembly required-awkward repair, but worth it

Bosch intelligent frost free 88

We have the same and I think it is because the freezer door bounces open when we shut the fridge door. Then the freezer compartment ices up, the fan clogs up with ice and cannot blow cold air into the fridge, and the fridge gets warm and the milk goes off.
Solution? We have bought one of those child safety clips (search for fridge safety clip or lock) to hold the freezer door closed.
Simple design error. Expected better from Bosch :-(

Sounds like you need to replace the ice maker. The mold heater appears to be defective. The mold heats up prior to a ice dump. I donot believe it is worth repairing

Freezer fine- fridge temp is 51 degrees

I got the same problem. For some reason in the freezer part on the back wall there is a condensor and it keeps on getting all iced up and then there is not enough air pressure for the fan to circulate cold air to you fridge part. I took mine all apart used a hair dryer to thaw out everything which took out about 1 gallon of water from the hose in the bottom back of fridge. It fixed the problem for about 4 days and then froze up again, There must be some type of tempature sensor or automatic defroster not working like it shoud.Does anybody know? Help me too?

Icing up uin freezer

Hi noelle7
You say your freezer is icing up!

What is the model and how old is the freezer?
Is it a chest or upright freezer?

Icing can happen for a variety of reasons.

1. An air leak at the seal
my kids get ice cream a lot and slam the door and it pops open a crack.
Or does not completely close when they swing it closed and walk away on the upright freezer!
If we hold it open for 60 seconds or more freely searching for something, usually in a chest freezer.
You may find that the warm air allowed to enter for those minutes will eventually cause the formation of ice in my freezer.
The less time open the less chance of ice forming.
Or if it is severe then the thermostat is broken.

How old?

Here is an article I just read.

Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old refrigerator

It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs,
such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer.

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your refrigerator,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your refrigerator is under warranty or less than four years old (three years for top-freezers),
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that refrigerators under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your refrigerator is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are quieter and have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new refrigerator.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive top-freezer refrigerator
six or more years old or a bottom-freezer or side-by-side eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a refrigerator you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help!
