The tv has no picture or menu. Only has very minimal brightness. Can only see the brightness if there is no light in the room. It has good sound. Can not see any picture or menu just very little brightness

Where is the ballast located? I notice this tv has 4 backlight inverter boards. Do all 4 have to be replaced if that is the problem?

  • raykl2011 May 03, 2011

This tv does not have a lamp. It is not a projection tv. It has flourescent bulbs. It has 4 backlight inverter boards powering 6 lamps each. I assume the board has the ballast circuitry for the bulbs. I was unable to bring up the website you provided. I believe one of these boards are defective but would prefer not like to replace all four.

  • raykl2011 May 04, 2011

This tv does not have a bulb. It uses CCFL lamps. I cannot adjust brightness because I can't see a menu. The screen has almost no brightness. It uses 4 different backlight inverter boards. I assume one of those is defective. I do not want to replace all four if possible. Thanks.

Could be the supply not producing 70v, could be a missing power on command from the logic pcb, could be missing 5v on the timing pcb, could be a backlight lamp not firing, could be the process Ic on the main board no producing a video out do to an order off command, bad connection or missing voltage. That's the pain about sharp TVs really well made but really hard to fix.

Hello
Check the backlight inverter and bulb. If inverter board has some trouble, this type of fault will occur to sharp LCD tv. Try to increase the brightness of the screen. If cannot, backlight should be checked. OK.

Hello ... Backlight bulb of an LCD TV means its ccfl light itself, and everybody knows it. You haven't its user manual with you now I thinks. If so send me your email address, and I'll send a copy of it to you. In case of inverter checking, it is quite crucial to check its working frequency. You must have a good quality digital multimeter, capable of measureing frequency up to 10MHz. For an unexperienced one, there is no other way than checking one by one inverter section. OK.

If the capacitors in the TV are good it may be an issue with the back light. Ether your backlight is bad or the ballast are since the menu and the pictures are both dim.

I see, even if you look at it up close you do not get a very dim picture? Anyways you may not notice the picture if the backlight does not light up correctly. It may be the ballast or the backlight but in most cases like this the ballast is bad.

  • Nicolo Carlo Parazo May 03, 2011

there is one ballast supplying power to the lamp. It is also unlikely that all will go bad but it may happen. Refer to the link bellow:

the link shows a samsung but there is a similarity in terms of appearance.

Sounds like you have a backlight problem. To verify this, turn on the set, dim the lights in the room, and shine a bright flashlight on the screen. If you see a faint picture you have a backlight fault. It could be as simple as a bad capacitor in the power supply, or a faulty inverter board, or in rare cases a bad backlamp.

Sounds like bad capacitors on the power supply board which is a very common issue for all flat panels. You can get repair kits and also replaceent power supply boards from www.tvrepairworld.com

My flat pane sharp LC-20AV4U does not turn on. The power light is gone (usually it is orange when off and green when on) switch gets power and works. If I had a wiring diagram I probably could figure it out

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.
  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.

Sound will come on but not picture. just a blank brown screen.

Sounds like the power supply. A lot of these TVs use power supplies with cheap capacitors. When the go bad or get weak the backlight will stop working. You will need to either replace the power supply or if you know someone skilled with a soldering iron and electronics, trace down the bad capacitors and replace them.

IM A TV TECH. I HAVE A SONY LCD KP-60XBR800 I HAVE NO RASTER. POWER OK, MENU OK BUT NO RASTER ON TUNER, TUNER VOLTS OK,CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE. THANKS my email sergioaguirre0182@hotmail.com

check the high voltage with the screen control turned up high where there is no raster. suspect problem within the video circuit where there is no high voltage or defective picture tube.some time when the screen is black and the screen control advanced, you can see if the tv has video or vertical or horizontal problems on the screen.service the high voltage circuit if there is no raster or high voltage is seen.no raster can be caused by the no heater or filament in the CRT.---- a defective picture tube can cause many problems, such as, poor brightness ,missing colors, intermittent picture, poor focus,a single-colored raster, arching in the gun assembly, retrace lines in the picture, negative picture, chassis shutdown, noheater or filament lit and no raster to name a few.an open filament or heater can cause no picture or no raster symptom.a defective CRT can have an extremely bright screen.loose particles of the cathode element can lodge between the grids and cause an intermittent black and white picture. simply tap the ends of the CRT gun assembly and notice if the picture begins to flash off and on.---- with a leaky picture tube after turn on the raster dims and get extremely bright.a dim picture with no green in the raster can result from a bad green assembly. a heater-to-cathode short can cause a raster to change colour or a result in no raster at all.replace the picture tube if there is severe arching in the neck of CRT. excessive brightness with retrace lines and a vertical collapse to a thin line can be caused by a bad coil on the neck board of the picture tube.rejuvenate the picture tube when there is very bright green screen. check for the resistance change on the resistors of the CRT neck board for an excessively bright picture with retrace lines.excessive dust inside the CRT spark gaps within the picture tube socket can cause the very bright raster and the chassis shutdown.a defective video amp, luminance buffer,or reference transistor can cause a bright picture with retrace lines. -------- for getting any required parts to replace you can get it from www.radioshack.com or from www.partstore.com or from www.shopjimmy.com --------- thanks.please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.

I have a Sharp Aquos LC-40E77UN with the same issue, and have tracked down a single burned capacitor at C7816 on the power supply board, and am looking for info on the capacitor in order to replace it. (Power supply: RDENCA354WJQZ / Delta DPS 208BPA). - Any help with a schematic would be appreciated!)
Since you say the picture went out, it is possible that you might have the same problem, Bad/failed/leaking capacitors are, unfortunately, quite common in electronics. There are volumes of info available on the subject.
Replacement power boards can also be purchased. One for my TV runs about $60 to $120 depending on used or new. Since I was able to see a good picture on mine for a few seconds, despite the burnt out capacitor, I'm opting to try and find/replace the cap myself (using the proper safety procedures), or at worst, have a repair done to the power supply.
Backlights should typically last around 60,000 hours.

Sounds like a lamp error.... either a defective or broken lamp within the LCD1.gif panel itself, or you have a bad inverter.
