Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

My Philips MCM530 begins to read (displays track name) on an MP3 disc but won't play them, sometimes displaying a ROOT message and then freezing, needing to restart it to "get back" to reading CDs. Any fixes?

ROOT appears onscreen when I try to play an MP3 disc of any origin. I did, indeed clean the lense of the CD player. Any thoughts? Alignment?

  • mbraun850 Mar 17, 2011

all mp3 discs. Once I try them (and fail) I need to shut it off and restart just to recognize a standard CD.

The problem is in ROOT. does this mean that it requires reprogramming by an expert and if so, where do I take or send it?

  • mbraun850 Mar 17, 2011

Yes, and again, it SOMETIMES now reads out the first rack name, but won't play. Just dispalys ROOT. as in Root Directory. How do I reprogram this if at all?

    OK!

Hi mbraun850,
Make sure that the disc is in good condition, scratches in the disc will make the player freezed. If confirmed that the fault is not coming from the disc, play a dvd/cd lens cleaner disc to your player if not available you can do manual cleaning of the optical lens by soft cotton buds. Don't put any liquid just a plain cotton buds then wipe the lens very gently. Fine dust and any foreign object blocking the lens will do the same symptom.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

no I didn't suggest you to do that, this is will require some special test instrument and skills. Do you encountered problem in MP3 format only or all of the disc? If the unit plays well in cd, high chance that the fault is in MP3 disc. This was burned which is not compatible on the standard of your unit.

Does your player accept mp3 format before?

Aligning the trimer bias of optical lens required test instrument and skills of an expert, you need to bring the unit to Philips service center. Sign of malfunction on this format indicated that it was already mis-aligned. Note that mis-accuracy of this trimmer bias will result to more serious problem.

What does the display read when this happens, I have experience with these, does it say disc recover? also when the laser reader gets old, it may be done, unless you can maybe find someone with replacement. Old or scratched cds won't read well, or skip also.

Can I play music from my mac to my philips mcm530 without an install disc? If not, where can I get an install disc?

I have the same issue. To my knowledge there is no Mac support for the MCM530. We use the Aux and plug it in to the headphone jacks of our Mac (or PC). The sound quality is excellent and it will play anything your computer will play.

I don't think there is anything wrong with how your doing the ID3-tag..
Have you tried pressing the [D] button while playing one of these disc's..
It sounds to me like it's reading the CD title as the ROOT (main) folder.
I found this in the manual:
Displaying CD titles
This unit can display title data for CD-text/MP3/ WMA disc and user titles input with this unit.
1. Press the [D] button to display the title.
2. Each time you press and hold the [D] button for 1 second or longer, the title display changes in the following order:
User title (disc) ? CD-text title (disc) ? Artist name ? CD-text title (track) ? User title (disc)... Folder ? File ? Album TAG ? Artist TAG ? Title TAG ? Folder...

You will find the info on page 12 through to 13.

Kenwood RXD25 CD player intermitent??

Hi jenoss

Sounds like the unit has either a failing load belt to the cd drawer mechanism, not allowing the transport to fully load the cd. Give the unit a gentle tap just after the drawer closes and see if it resolves the problem.

OR a faulty spindle motor, you will have to take the lid off and after pressing play, give the disc a gentle "kickstart". If it then begins to run, then the motor is the problem.

If you find it is neither of these, get back to me here and I we shall go further

Playlist problems

The only way you can get the tracks to play in order is to rename them before you put them on the player.

eg.

Album title - 01 - Track name
Album title - 02 - Track name
Album title - 03 - Track name

Album title - 10 - Track name

and so on

The albums will stay together, and the track number will put them in order within each album. Just remember to use 2 digit track numbers or they will sort 1, 10, 11, 12, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9
