My 2007 rav 4 just stopped. Charging light came on, is this the timing belt and can my husband change this or do we need to take the car to a dealer

Charging Light has to do with the Alternator

Charging Circuit --electrical/alternator !!!!

Timing Belt/engines valves !!!!

Your saying the timing belt broke & your car stopped
& won't start ????

You do speak to your husband I assume
Did he say he could change a timing belt?

You NEVER need a dealer for any car repairs EVER

There a hundreds of thousands of repair shops that are
there to solve your cars issues
There is nothing special at a dealer but the high prices

When my husband turns the car it squels and he has to fight to turn in

There is a very good chance the belt that drives the power steering pump,is slipping. When it slips, you loose the power steering effect and it makes it hard to turn.It will slip under load.i.e when turning.Check the fluid level and belt.Replace belt if need be.I think this will be the problem. The squeeling is the belt slipping.Hope this helps you

Broken belt

Hi.

If you cant easily see how to replace the Belt then I think your Dc07 has A clutch unit.

This type of Dc07 has 2 belts one from motor to clutch & the second belt goes clutch to brush roller.

You will need to remove the clutch unit completey from the machine in order to replace the belts, Its alot to explain so try this site it has service manuals covering this.
