Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

We are sorry but this forum does not supply any type of manual or schematic diagram direct; it's just made up of ordinary guys and gals, probably at home and from all over the world, with experience of addressing problems and giving guidance for free on the web ;-0)

You will need to type into your search engine/web browser '(make) washer technical manual' and you may be presented with a number of sources from which you can either download for free or have to pay a nominal amount. During the process you will be asked for the actual model number.

May I also suggest you try the manufacturer's web site direct? You may find, however, that it will supply only to service engineers but good luck anyway.

Good luck,
John C

Maytag washer (M#FAV6800AWW) displaying error code OP. We already replaced the clutch, the shocks, and the unbalance sensor. TY

Hi.

OP means that the lid does not close. Usually you need to replace the lid lock. Here the part.

The lid switch and wiring should be tested before replacing the switch. Pages 31 and 32 in this service manual show how to test the switch.Make sure power is disconnected before carrying maintenance.

Here all parts and diagrams for your washer.

Regards.

Ginko.

Maytag Performa MTW5740TQO. You have to shut the lid hard several times to get it to start.

Sounds like a problem with the lid switch coming apart. I would recommend replacing the switch. Here is a link to part if you need it.

Have to trip washer lid safety switch with something more substantial than little 'plunger' attached to the washer lid to get washer to drain and spin during rinse cycle. do i need to replace the safety...

removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Newer model Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a Lid Switch as a safety device. Unless the switch senses that the lid on the washer is closed, the washer will neither agitate nor spin.

Older models only used the switch during the spin cycle.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=913ba652cd504fb162f87d892bcb427b

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part and only requires you to access the console and remove the cabinet to replace it.

It comes as a complete unit and you can't replace just the plunger.

Replace lid switch

You will need to not only remove the control panel, but you will also need to remove the washer casing from the frame in order to acces the switch. It sounds intimidating, but really isn't that difficult to do. The following link explains how to replace a lid switch:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385199-replacing_lid_switch_whirlpool_top

Your washer is manufactured by Whirpool, so these instructions will apply. Most commonly, the lid switch is located under the washer casing along the right hand side of the lid. If the model number you have this listed under is correct, your switch is under the washer casing near the right lid hinge. The mounting screw(s) and ground connector are under the operator console. For clarification, you can refer to pcappliancerepair.com for some excellent exploded view diagrams to assist you. The lid switch is located under the "Top and Cabinet Parts" heading.

If you have any questions about this repair, or need additional assistance, please let me know.
