Question about Raymarine Autopilot ST7002 Display Head ()

Open Question

I've got a raymarine 7000 autopilot, the previous owner says the linear drive works but the head unit does not communicate with it. I will be at the boat at the end of March and I would like to know what to try to test.

SOURCE: Clutch failure of Raymarine M81130 linear drive

Try putting 12 vdc directly to the clutch circuit. You should hear the clutch engage. If this is operating properly, then the course computer circuit has failed. If this is not working then the linear drive needs to be rebuilt.

How to repair St40 autopilot. Works intermittently.

The autopilot draws a good amount of current. make sure that all connections are good and tight starting with the connection at the fuse or breaker all the way through to the unit. make sure the connection at the autopilot is clean and tight. If the problem persists, it may be internal to the unit.

I have a Raymarine Autopilot with a control unit ST7002. The display has almost burned and it is hard to see. The control unit has been discontinued and it is hard and expensive to find. Can I change it...

You can probably find another control head on eBay... the ST6002 should also work, though it's smaller. The ST8002 is the same size but adds a knob meant for powerboats, but should also work. All three models are SeaTalk, which is what you need. The ST70 is also SeaTalk in addition to N2K, so I'd expect it to work.

Hi!
The ST1000+ does not have an internal GPS. What it does have is an electronic compass underneath the keypad. When you order the Tillerpilot to steer to a bearing, the unit uses the electronic compass to steer using a series of corrections.

Just in case you've misplaced your Owners Manual, you can use this link to download it to your computer: http://www.raymarine.com/productdocumentfinder.aspx

Click on your language preference, then Autopilots from the drop-down menu, tillerpilots and finally ST 1000+. The pdf file for your unit is 81130_6.pdf

Hope this helps and happy boating!

Boat on screen does not point the direction the boat is going e-80 series also chart will not go course up or heading up like the radar does unit is set in relative motion mode

The direction of the boat symbol is depending on the compass course from the autopilot. You will see that your GPS course (COG) and magnetig heading on the autopilot differs. Solution is to calibrate autopilot compass. Will advice you to not use course up, stick to north up or heading up.

St6000

The linear drive should have an adjustment screw on the arm so that it can be adjusted to show when the rudders are central. you will need to centre upm the rudders then loosen the screw and adjust until the guage shows the centre position. May take some fiddling to get right cause sometimes when you centre it the guage won't read correctly in the port or starbord directions (won't go all the way over). May need to re-position the whole unit.
