Question about HP Computers & Internet

1 Answer

HP DeskJet 820Cse, on TP T20 using Win98SE, refuses to run, following a motherboard switch to a lesser model #. Download of dj379en.exe, when installed, gets error message that "communication" is not correct. Use LPT1, bi-directional, can run a "test page" ok, just NOT when connected to the laptop. This printer worked ok on previous motherboard. Wonder about BIOS (which is a lesser version now than before, but can't find anything at Lenovo or HP to lead me to do a BIOS change. In fact, am scared to, as I spent a week getting the modem (also a lesser version now than before,) and that wore me down.

Would you believe that after totally unplugging the cable from the computer, and to the printer, and repushing the cables back in, firmly, the printer began working? This reminded me of the old Maytag ad, which showed the repairman fixing the housewife's clothes washer by plugging in the cord to the wall socket. Laugh.

I connected to my HP DeskJet 820Cse via my home network. It showed the printer is connected and selected but won't print. I am using Windows 7 64-bit. What's wrong?

The 820 is a really old piece of kit and i am very surprised that windows 7 has found a driver for it. I I suspect that it has used a generic driver as hp never produced a W7 driver let alone a 64 bit one. I dont think you will ever get it to work.

Srri but have been working on printers for over 20 years so take my advice and dont try and cure the incureable!!

Deskjet 820cse has a blinking yellow light and when you hit the button next to it the whole thing turns off like you are hitting the power button

I had this happen on my deskjet, it's the same symptoms as a paper jam, you can try seeing if there is any debris in the pathway, if you have some compressed air, try blowing the pathway free of any dust or hair this usually does the trick.

Hope this helps.

You could try cleaning the rollers with some soap and water. Make sure the power is off first.

That's because the driver doesn't tell you the ink is low. The software does. The software doesn't come with the os just the driver. Do you have a cd for Win XP? I'll get you the link to download the software just in case.

Hi, after you install a new ink cartridge you need to run the printer software to add the new ink levels. Have you done this?
