Question about Pioneer VSX-515 Receiver

1 Answer

I have a Pioneer VSX-515-K A/V Reciever. When I plug it in the power relay clicks continuously. I don't have the schematic to troubleshoot the circuit. I just want to make sure it is the relay that's bad before I order it and replace it. Any suggestions?

A bad relay won't pick and release itself. You need to find the cause.

Here's the Service manual.

Page 66and 67 have a timing sequences for power up and down.

Pages 72 and 73 describe a possible loops - DC abnormality and Fan Stopped.

Am i supposed to be able to plug optical in to optical on my pc and get 5.1 surround sound with my pioneer vsx -515-s/-k.

That would follow. Assuming the PC's unspecified sound card (output) is set up to export the digital bitstream that the Pioneer can accept. Read some manuals.

I have a Pioneer VSX-305 receiver. I blew channel A speaker outputs by allowing speaker wires to touch while the output was on. Everything else works, including the B speaker outputs. There are only three...

There are independent relays for the speaker A and B switching.Best place to start would be from the relay. When you select A do you hear a click, if not relay is not switching. The circuit involved is a small transistor , a low value resistor ( could be the culprit ) and a shunt diode.

I have a pioneer rec. vsx-515. I do not have the instructions how to hook up the main sub woofer that plugs into the wall

What model subwoofer would that be? The Pioneer manual would offer some guidance on ITS end of this partnership.

The unit wont power up it is stopped at the first power relay. iT SEEMS THE POWER RELAY IS BAD. cAN IT BE FIXED

If the power relay clicks, this means that the coil is good but the relay contacts may be dirty (contacts need to be cleaned or the relay replaced).

If the relay does not click, then it might be a bad fuse, a bad relay coil or a faulty relay drive circuitry, no power to the relay drive circuit, possibly an internal overload or a short somewhere in the unit which causes the unit to stay off to protect itself from further damage that might occur if it had turned on.

Won't power on

Our VSX-515-S quit suddenly while playing when it was turned up quite loud. The power would not come back on. I disconnected it, and opened it up. No fuses were blown, but there was no voltage in the power supply. When I pressed the on button, I could hear a very faint click, but no power. I even took some parts out and replaced them.

I went on line and bought a service manual download for $7.95.

Within 5 minutes, I found where the service manual said if there was a DC overload, the power would cut off. To reset, press the ENTER + ADVANCED SURROUND key simultaneously and hold for 3 seconds.

I did this and the power came back on. It even remembered the last FM station it was tuned to. Problem s.olved
