Keyboard doesn't work

To determine if the motherboard is faulty, connect an USB keyboard to your laptop an see if the keyboard works properly. If so then the laptop keyboard may only need the keyboard connector unplugged and then plugged back onto the motherboard.

Keyboard problem & it doesn't work prefect

If the keyboard has a round purple connector, power down the computer then unplug and then plug in the keyboard. Power on the computer. If it works your done if it doesn't replace the keyboard. If this is a USB keyboard, with the computer on, unplug and plug in the keyboard if it works great, if it still isn't working replace the keyboard. NOTE if this is a multi functional keyboard (special keys at the top) make sure you install the driver and any software associated with the keyboard.

Keyboard doesn't work

Try connecting an USB keyboard to your Acer laptop. If the external USB keyboard does not work the the laptop is faulty.
If the USB keyboard works then reseat the laptop's keyboard connector to the motherboard, it may have become loose.

Keyboard not working

Do you have a spare USB keyboard you could try using? If an external keyboard works just fine - but the actual keyboard on the laptop does not respond at all - it is likely that the keyboard has failed.

If you are comfortable taking your laptop apart, you can try to unplug the keyboard and plug it back into the connection point on the laptop. DO NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU ARE 100% COMFORTABLE WITH REMOVING THE LAPTOP KEYBOARD.

If you can get the keyboard to work by reseating the connection then that is awesome! However, the problem with laptop keyboards is that there isn't a solid way to tell if the keyboard is bad, or if the motherboard connection for the keyboard is bad. The only way to know for sure is to pay to have the keyboard replaced. If that fixes it, then that is great! But - if paying to get the keyboard replaced doesn't fix the computer, then you will be looking at an expensive motherboard repair.

If an external USB keyboard does work, it may be a temporary solution until you are ready to have a certified technician replace the built in keyboard.

Plug in a USB keyboard to your laptop and test the spacebar on it. If it works, then the laptop keyboard may be bad.

Try this:
1. You may just need to reseat the keyboard. In other words, disconnect it from the motherboard and then reconnect it to see if it fixes your problem.

2. If step one doesn't work then buy a new keyboard and install it.

Hi I have an Acer Aspire 4740 and half the keyboard doesn't work, What can I do?

To determine if the keyboard is faulty or the keyboard controller on the motherboard is faulty, connect an USB keyboard to your notebook. If the keys on the USB keyboard works normally then the fault is the notebook's keyboard. This is easily fixed by replacing the keyboard.
A replacement keyboard may be available from these WEB sites.

Some of my keys on the keyboard don't want to work and I was told I need to replace it. But how do I remove my current keyboard on my Compaq Presario 2100 laptop?

You need to unscrew some of the screws on the bottom of your laptop. They may be under your battery, or under little rubber covers. It is likely but not gauranteed that the right screws will have little keyboard icons next to them, if not, guess, and then try to remove the keyboard, if it doesn't come off, remove another screw...etc.

Finally, when it comes off, there will be a bus (group of wires) connecting it to the motherboard. Wiggle the bus slowly and gently out of the port on the motherboard, and then wiggle the new bus of the new keyboard into the port and screw the new keyboard in.

The drivers should be installed automatically, and it should work right away.

The keyboard may be faulty, try a different keyboard, but don't use an USB keyboard because an USB keyboard may not be recognised until Windows is running.

My spacebar doesn't always work

Spacebar has nothing to do with the motherboard. That has to do with the keyboard. Did you spill any liquid into the keyboard? Have you used a can of compressed air and tried blowing out the keyboard?
If you spilled a liquid into your keyboard on accident, that could be the problem. At that point, you will just have to replace the keyboard.
If you have not tried using a can of compressed air, give that a try because there could be some dust/dirt blocking the connection.
If the can of air does not solve your problem, your best bet is to purchase a new keyboard which is very cheap at any store.
