Question about Brother HL3040CN Laser Printer

Open Question

Pages are printing dirty. There is a gray haze all over the page. I have cleaned the metal bars inside the printer with a lintless cloth. I have replaced all 4 drums even though they were not due to be changed. I have even gone as far as replacing the belt! AND...still I gray haze all over the page when I print. I even cleaned the drums using the "Drum Cleaning" feature and cleaned the Corona wires. I'm out of options and this printed is still printing DIRTY!!!

You may want to changes the transfer roller also of your getting dirty on both sides. The toner may have leaked on the transfer roller also, causing this issue

sounds like a dodgy black toner - is it a 3rd party toner - had this quite a lot myself at work with cheaper cartridges. to print a cleaning page just flick through the menu to diagnostics or print quality - in here you should find some cleaning tools of the machine

I have a Lexmark C544dn printer. I am getting a yellow haze on the right side of all pages printed.

Check the transfer belt and clean if necessary with Isopropanol (IPA), and a soft clean cloth. Also check the drum for the same. Handle with extreme care as these are fragile and expensive. If none of those fix the issue you may need to get the laser lenses cleaned professionally.

A 1/4 inch stripe of magenta ink runs down the side of all pages printed.

Hi ,
Dirty print out is mostly due to cartridge related issues. In this case it seems that magenta is the issue. Take out the cartridge and clean its drum/ (green roller) with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. The drum is located under a cover. Checkout for any spilled toner inside the printer and clean it also. Print a few pages so that the parts get further cleaned. I think, this would solve the issue.

Moreover, streaks (thicker lines) and dots etc indicate faulty PCR Roller which is located just behind the green drum inside the cartridge. Try cleaning it or replacing the Magenta Cartridge. If required, get the PCR Roller changed by a professional.

Let me know if any further clarification is required.
Hope it helps! Good Luck!

Full of paper, not overloaded, no paper jam, sounds like tpulling paper but doesn't. While looking for on line troubleshooting, started printing my 2 pages that I needed. I tried to print again the two...

Remove the paper from the printer. Open the printer and remove the toner cartridge. Towards the back lower part of the machine is the paper feed tire. It is a gray rubber "wheel" and is on a metal bar that runs from side to side. Take a small cloth and dampen it with some glass cleaner. Clean the tire as best you can. May have to try and rotate it a bit to get to all of it. Then re-install the toner and reload the paper. If this works then great. If not it sounds like you may have a mechanical problem and will need service.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Hi, the printed pages come out with a gray film over most of the page

Do a "half test". Print a few pages, as the printer prints open the top cover. Pull out the toner and look down at the paper. If it has the gray cast, you have a bad toner cartridge or a bad transfer roller.
It could also be a dirty ground. Try vacuuming out the inside of the printer especially around the transfer roller.

The mechanism that takes paper from the tray to the printing area feeds several pages at once so i get printed page, blank page, blank page, printed page, blank page, blank page etc

I am not sure of the printer that you have, but it could be that the seperator pad is dirty or the paper feed rollers are dirty. You can clean them with a little isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth, Make sure the printer is off when doing this procedure.

Pages printing blank

Resolving white, light lines or streaks (eliminate light stripes)

From the printer, print the Troubleshooting Print Quality Pages.
With Troubleshooting highlighted, press the OK button.
Scroll to Print Quality Problems by pressing the Up or Down Arrow button. Press OK.

Scroll to Troubleshooting Print Quality Page. Press OK.
Evaluate the Light Stripes Test page for missing printhead jets (missing cyan, magenta, yellow or black color bars).

Clean the maintenance unit's wiper blade and empty the waste tray. A dirty maintenance drawer wiper blade can cause white lines and weak or missing printhead jets. Using a clean lint-free cloth or a paper coffee filter, gently clean the blade with a wiping motion across the entire length of the wiper blade.

It is a high voltage problem, normally caused by the toner cartridge, but if you've already replaced this i suggest you clean the cartridge contacts in the printer, if this doesn't work you will need a replacement HVPS (high voltage power supply)
