Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have an HP S3000 Slimline computer with no graphics, the monitor is blank, no beeps and the power light on the monitor is yellow. I checked voltage going to some of the hardware and it is 10.5 volts and the power pack shows it has 12 volt output.

Is the monitor ligt blinking or solid light if the monitor light is blinking remove the covers then remove the memory card and clean them with a clean cloth and insert in the dimmi socket and switch on the monitor light will be steady and still you have problem replace the memory and also look for the graphics section mostly the graphics is embedded to the mother board if you are having pci express slot or agp slot you can insert a graphics card and check if you have graphics that mens the embedded graphics section in *********** board is fried you can take the mother board to to a chiplevel service person for repair or you can use the add on graphics card

chiplevel, Thanks for your reply. I guess I should have posted that the light on the monitor is green for a second and then is a steady yellow, I tried a new pci-e graphics card without any success. I removed the ram, wiped it down and reinstalled. I checked the voltage for the harddrive and DVD and the power supply was putting out 10.5 volts, the sticker on the power supply says the output should be 12 volts. I have repaired many computers in the past (one's with simple solutions), but I just can't figure this one out. Thanks again for your help.

My 1 year old computer has a black screen but u can hear the computer running help....

Are you getting any beeps while your computer starts up or when it has already started? If yes, then refer to the following HP Support page to get details about different types of beeps and the respective issue they indicate:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c02222922#N315
If you are not getting any beeps, you can start troubleshooting the issue by first checking the connectivity and performance of your monitor. To do this, refer to the steps below:
1)Make sure that your monitor has power and the power light on it turns On when power is supplied to the monitor. If the light stays Off, turn Off the power supply- unplug and plug the power cord- reseat the power adaptor connection on your monitor's end- turn On the power supply. If the monitor's light glows, see if the computer still shows the blank screen. If yes, follow the steps ahead.
2)If your monitor is of flat panel LCD type, unplug its power cord and wait for around 30 seconds so that the electronics in your monitor are reset. Now reconnect the cord and turn On the monitor.
3)If you are still facing the blank screen issue, disconnect all the connected devices to your computer except mouse, keyboard, and monitor. Also remove memory cards from card reader slots (if any) and thumb drives connected to your computer (if any).
4)If the above steps do not resolve your issue, you can try (if possible) to connect your monitor to another video cable (if it is detachable) for testing purpose.
If the issue still persists, you can refer to the HP Support links below to troubleshoot your issue:

Does the monitor go out completely, no power? Or just lose a signal? Check ALL cables, AC and Monitor cables. Could be a Graphics adapter issue or Monitor , try another monitor.Your computer has a few miles on it , right? You could buy a PCI Graphics card if the monitor is OK.

Hp pavilion slimline x3507c pc. when I boot up the monitor remains in standby mode. I have already determined that the problem is in the computer not the monitor. The power supply is good, the fans run,...

very simple bring a new AGP card and plug in it on your pc and plug the monitor pin in new agp now start your computer . monitor will turned on.

if the monitor is not turned on its mean your have problem in your ram or mother board for that pluged out your all rams from your pc and start your computer if cpu ring a beep its mean you have ram problem and the mother board is ok but if you cant hear any beep its mean mother board's problem ram is ok.

I have a HP Pavilion Slimline s3700y that doesn't always boot. Power is getting to the computer; the light on the back lights up as well as the lights on the front. However, power doesn't seem to...

If you saying "doesn't always boot", most common would be motherboard...
If your motherboard still beeps, then probably some other components has the problem like RAM, GPU card etc., depends on your motherboard.

Hope that give an idea...

Hp pavilion slimline s3020n PC the computer says no analog signal the problem is all the time cant run the computer at all.i have not tried to fix the problem myself

Does the computer turn ON? (do you hear beeps?, do you see lights on the computer NOT THE MONITOR?, do you hear the fans?, etc...) it could be the monitor, try an other one, it could be the video card, swap it with a known good one ,it could be the VGA cable change it, etc... if the computer is all dead try an other electric outlet.

Good luck!

Dvi has no signal

It's okay katinajackso, you're doing good.

Let's start with edification on what a VGA connector looks like, and what a DVI connector looks like.

1) VGA connector: (Video Graphics Array)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

Generally a VGA port is blue in color, but I would like you to look at the port itself. (Photo at upper right of page. You can left-click on it to enlarge. You can enlarge twice)

Note the socket holes. 5 going across the top, 5 going across the middle, and 5 going across the bottom. Staggered design.

2) DVI: (Digital Visual Interface)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface

It would be nice to know the specific product number.

http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_query=Pavilion+s3100&submit.x=7&submit.y=9

However, the Pavilion Slimline 3100e, 3100n, and 3100y, all have the same basic features.
You can use the Integrated Graphics (OnBoard) by using the VGA port, or the graphics card by using the DVI port.

[Port: {In this case scenario}
The actual connection on the computer, or on the monitor, that the monitor cable plugs into.

The cord with two Blue ends, and has two screws on each side, is a Monitor Cable. I'm just speaking (Typing) like I were sitting next to you, and explaining what you see, with the correct terms ]

Now, are you indicating this is a DVI monitor cable? Has two ends on it, as shown in the DVI link on Wikipedia above?

Would you happen to have a VGA monitor (Look like a small TV) around? Has a VGA monitor cable?

Reasoning is that should you have access to one, you could plug it into the VGA port on the back of the computer, and see if you have any graphics at all.
Even garbled will be fine for this test.

The test is to see if the graphics card in the computer, (Where you plug into a DVI port), is bad.

If it's still the same - No VGA Signal/No DVI Signal, then the diagnoses goes on to the Power Supply.

The Pavilion Slimline s3100 series computer case, has very little ventilation.
Air flowing through the computer, is what cools the hardware components inside.
A lack of air will case components to fail because they overheat.

Yes, in essence it's a poor computer case design.
(Poor computer design, period)

Add to that the computer may have been kept in a cramped space, and not have adequate clearance around it to allow the proper air flow, and also that the inside of the computer could be dirty.

A graphics card, a Processor, and a Power Supply, give off a Lot of heat when operating.

In most cases I would state to test the power supply voltages, or use a Known to be Good, Compatible power supply for a test unit.
(Good power supply works, you know the power supply in your computer is bad)

The Power Supply for the Slimline s3100 is a specific unit. You can't just pull one out of an unused computer that may be sitting around, and use it.

If this is a Pavilion Slimline s3100n, I have seen a few offered on Ebay. $100USD.
(Ouch)

[Not advertising for Ebay]

I believe the way to approach this is the professional method, and test the Power Supply voltages, before opting to buy a new power supply.

If you are a person who is wary of handling electricity (Voltages), I would like you to rest assured that I have your safety in mind.

The voltages produced by the Power Supply are,
1) 3.3 Volts (3 point 3)
2) 5 Volts
3) 12 Volts
All are DC electricity.

Two D cell flashlight batteries produce 3 Volts DC.

The test equipment you will need will be an economical multimeter, or a power supply tester.

An economical multimeter can be purchase for around $5 to $12.
An economical power supply tester can be purchased for around $20.

Let's see if you have access to a VGA monitor, and monitor cable, before we go on to the Power Supply.

My computer turns on but my monitor screen stays blank my key board lights dont come onim wondering if this is my harddrive because it doesnt make any noise when i turn it on

Hi,
Its highly unlikely that its the hard drive as a computer will still show a post or splash screen without a hard drive being installed.
Is the computer making any beeping sounds?

LCD monitor goes blank

It appears that the display resolution set in your display properties is out of the range that the LCD can display.

Try this.

Boot to the ENABLE VGA MODE by pressing F8 to get the Windows Boot Menu. If you can get to the desktop, then go to display properties, and see if you can change the resolution to higher settings and maintain video. (If the video blanks out, then it should revert to the previous setting in 15 seconds)
