Hello My wireless-G router quit working. This is the 2nd time in past 3 years. Yesterday it made a funny druming noise when it quit. I did all the tests to confirm it was not the modem or my computer. My question is it better to purchase a new Linksys or have the existing one re configured again if possible?

What you can do here first is to perform and Hard reset on your router and after doing reconfigure it and if still not working the router is already bad and need s replacement.

To perform a Hard reset follow this procedure.

1.HARD RESET- Reset the device to factory default.
a.Press and hold the reset button for 30 sec., after that
b.Unplug the power keep holding down the reset button for another 30 sec.
c.Then, plug back the power keep holding down the reset button for 30sec., after that
d. Release the reset button.

Personally, I'd probably go for replacing the device, and then use the failing one to experiment with third-party firmwares like Tomato and DD-WRT.

yes don't use the WAN port only the 4LAN ports. set its IP to a unused IP in range of your 1st router (so you can still manage itand there are no IP conflicts). and MAKE sure to turn off DHCP. now its just a switch that works as a 2nd wireless access point.
I have 3 routers bridged together in my condo. works great going on 3 years.

Hello: My Linksys Wireless - G router failed


I had this same router, and experienced this and other issues. Finally I just replaced it, and have been issue free since. Although Linksys is a widely known and used product, there are quite a few folks out there that are experiencing the same issues. That being said, I would recommend replacing it. D-Link is actually a really good router, and they are considerably less than the Linksys.

So what you tried without hte www.

Router works well most of the time....then for past two weeks it won't rout to other 2 PC and will not allow me to access modem. If I disconnect and plug in direct to PC modem works. Called high speed...


I have had similar problems in the past with 3 different brands of wireless routers, including the linksys Wireles-G router. In all cases, it was the same scenario, worked fine for a year or so, and then started giving inconsistent intermittent connectivity problems. Resetting, recycling etc. etc. would work for a while and eventually it would become unusable, and I would end up replacing. I went from a D-Link wireless router, to a Belkini, to a Linksys, and now use the Apple airport wireless, which I have also recently replaced with another Apple airport wireless. So unfortunately, I can't tell you if it's me doing something to kill them or if they are just short life expectancy for wireless routers, but the only fix I have experienced is replacing the router. Wireless network has disappeared


Sadly they do go, sounds like you've tried the best solutions. You can try 1 more, power cycle everything, this time, hit the little reset button on the back of the router, and see if you can connect through wifi after if. If not, sounds like it's fried. Use a surge suppressor on your modem, router, all that good stuff, lightning can easily take electronics out if you don't have the proper protection.

Save yourself some time, go grab a wireless N router for under $100, the increase in range alone is well worth the investment.

Follow the link above and select the specific model number for your device. Follow the instructioons, and read through them completely FIRST. This should get you your update at no cost and only a minimum time expendature.

No connectivity to 2nd desktop or laptop - although worked before


Hello....sudden loss of wireless on two computers, in the same home, may indicate that a powerful source of wireless interference has just arrived (since your wireless router light is still on).

1) Does the signal improve if you move the router, or move the laptop closer to the router?
2) Have you had any success with changing the channel on your router? (Login to router > select Wireless Settings > Channel)

If you have not moved furniture yourself, or installed a device which could interfere with the signal (eg a DECT phone), it's possible a neighbour's new router may be the culprit.

There can be a problem with the router, first thing that you can do here is to reset it by pressing the reset button of the router for 30 seconds while the power is ON then after that unplug the power of the router for 10 seconds and if you still have the setup CD you can just run it to your computer to reconfigure the router back but if not you need to manually configure the router and also do a firmware/software update for the router and if you're not familiar that you can contact this number so a tech can wlak you through with the process of checking the router and making it work again, this is the number that you can dial 1-877-787-8749 for help......
