Remove the top of the vcr, "2 to 6 screws" now! if the tape is spewed in the machine and is wrapped around the video head, get a pair of scissors and carefully cut away the tape and try the eject button. But! if the tape is loaded and the cassette there is a gear on the right side of the basket, with your thumb pull it towards you, this should manually rotate the cassette in the eject position, If this proves to be difficult I suggest a tv tech.

you can, I have done with all my 80's tapes. You need to be prepared though, time wise of songs. After your ready, just need to connect the audio out from tape, to audio in, on dvd recorder.Everything is the same as movie, just no useing the video imput.

I have a vhs video cassette stuck inside my vhs. Is their any way I can get it out without breaking the vcr. It is an older vcr, but I would like to get my tape out.

You might be able to unbolt the two halves of the VCR to remove the tape, but it depends on the VCR type and how it's stuck. You might end up having to get it serviced, or just getting a new VCR, as I can almost guarantee the tape is probably damaged beyond recovery, unfortunately.

Can this unit be modified to convert commercial VHS videos to DVD?

You might be able to do it with an signal amplifier made to copy vhc tape. Use it with an extra vhc player feed the signal to the combo and copy it to DVD.

Tape seems to be stuck to itself, I can't free it up

I think you are refering to the tape itself in the VHS cassette and it not being stuck inside the Video itself!
So if you are... don't use the spray... video cassettes have a brake system inside them. It sometimes breaks. If you turn the cassette upside down so you can see the white reels, inbetween them near the bottom (where the side label goes) you will see a small hole. If you put a pen inside it should release the reels so you can turn them with your finger. If they don't turn it may be broken. In which case... Get hold of a blank tape, the same length as yours. Carefully remove the screws (5) on the bottom. See how it's put together. Once you understand how the tape moves etc. Take out the reels with the tape, then dismantle your video and put the reels with the old tape into the new holder. It should work as good as new.
PS try not to touch with fingers the tape.

My record button won't go down. How can I fix it?

This is normal if the cassette tape has a broken tab. Try a different cassette or inspect the cassette to ensure that the write protect tab is not removed. where to look? On the cassette opposite side to where the tape is there are two possible places, each on the side of the cassette case. The broken tab is a feature that prevents accidental recording over an existing program. It also stops the record button from being pushed. The tab is a plastic part that is easy to break with a pen tip.

The tapes In my Panasonic PV-GS14 are stuck and won't run

you cannot move the spindles/cogs in a mini dv tape without pressing down a small lever on the rear of the cassette.
the lever is in the lower right, move the lever, then move the ribbon protector to the open position, then spin the cogs, the tape should be free.
if not, then you have a jamm inside the cassette, you can open these casettes by removing 4 small screws. ( this is a very fiddly job & you may ruin the casette, if you dont know how )
