Question about Compaq Presario V2608WM Notebook

1 Answer

No Power I have had a Compaq Presario V2608WM given to me for a work project, however this is getting the best of me. The AC adapter works fine, but when plugged into the laptop no indicator light or anything comes on, its like there is no power at all and I have tested the where the adapter attaches to the MB and it shows to have power but thats where it seemingly stops...I have tried the battery removal and holding down the power button with no luck, I have removed and replaced the memory....any help would be appreciated

This is going to be a problem with a component on the motherboard. The question is: how far do you want to go? If you just cringed a bit, stop right now, take the computer back, and tell them to get a new motherboard. However, if you answered "all the way baby!!!" then here's what we're going to do. Break the machine down and remove the motherboard, this way you can get to both sides. You will need an ohm meter or a power tester with an extremely sharp pointed end on the positive side. Plug the board in, be careful handling it, there are a few spots that you can get buzzed. Where the DC jack is on the board you will see the traces leading out to other ares of the board. The traces are the metallic circuitry in the board just under the green silicone coating. There are several traces leading out from the jack, so, one at a time, you're going to test for power along the trace every so many millimeters (approx 8-10mm) until you lose power. If you come to an area of no power, don't assume this is the only area. You need to follow each trace to the end, or at least until it loses power. If you lose power in the middle of an open trace, then the motherboard has a hair line fracture, and the whole thing is shot. You will most likely find that you lose power at a chip, capacitor, resistor, or some other component that is soldiered to the board. These are replaceable, but very difficult. They are generally surface soldiered by machine, which makes them hard to resoldier because the connection points that soldier to the board are generally tucked under the component. After replacing the component you need to run the trace to the end to check for other problem areas. If everything checks good, then you're ready to put the machine back together. This is what you will need to do in order to fix the machine. So, how's that "all the way baby" workin out for you now. Good luck, and if you need anything else, let me know.

I have a Compaq Presario F557US Notebook that keeps cycling on and off continuously. The screen remains black though.

Sounds like a power issue.
Battery could be dead. Disconnect the battery and try to run with just the AC adapter.
Could also be the AC adapter.

My compaq presario m2000 laptop turns off automatically. When I turn it on again it turns off after about 10 minutes.can you please help me solving the problem?

Hi,
Welcome to FixYa!
Im very sorry to hear that, please follow these simple steps for you to be able to isolate the exact problem.

1. Removed the battery.
2. Connect the laptop directly to the power outlet without using the battery just for the meantime.
3. Turn on the laptop. If the laptop is able to power on, that means that the AC adapter is working fine as well as the DC port. If the laptop is not able to turn on, it maybe the AC adapter itself or the DC port.
4. Try to use another AC adapter if possible, make sure that that AC adapter is working fine. If the laptop is still not turning on, the problem is with the DC port itself. In that case, you will need to replaced the Motherboard itself.

Hope this will help...Thank you for using Fixya...

How do I replace the keyboard. I have the replacement.

a laptop repair shop, ebay or search on google for a keyboard for that model and there should be guides you can find on how to replace one.

It should not be that hard as I have repaired a few laptops myself ( not a compaq one though )

Compaq Presario 1200 won't charge battery

dear N9YK

you can follow this

If you have a loose connection where you plug in the power on your laptop, or it works intermittently, you could have a bad dc jack. Symptoms
  • Move the power plug and the laptop loses connection
  • Broken or cracked dc jack
  • Laptop won't charge but worked on battery
  • Power LED and battery LED flicker when the adapter tip is moved
  • Battery won't charge
  • Sparks come out the back of the laptop
Why does this happen?
  • Flaw in manufacturer designs
  • Use of universal or non-original ac adapter
  • Lots of plugging and unplugging of the ac adapter
  • Tripping on or pulling the ac adapter cord
or you can check your dc amper in your adaptor

oke

thx

Compaq Presario v2000 having problems powering on

hi!

i'd say first try a known working ac adapter and if that Working AC adapter works and the system detects the battery well, then it could be the ac. If not then try to borrow a working battery to get your final conclusion. if the working battery still doesnt work properly, then it could be the system motherboard. If battery and ac adapter (working) are not available, then check the BIOS and see if it really doesnt detect the battery. try flashing the BIOS and still if that fails, then replace the battery.

hope this helps!

Regards,

Karlox

Dead laptop

Check the ac adapter is the proper one for that laptop. Check the power jack is not damaged or loose. let laptop site without battery or power for a few hours. remove battery and retry power. try another ac adapter if that doesn't work, you may have a reset button but not likely to solve the problem. sounds like motherboard is damaged, or something blew.
