Question about Yamaha Televison & Video
Contact yamaha with this problem, they may have a firmwar upgrade you can get Have you tried any DVD's that you have from 5 to 7 years ago, if they used to play and don't now then the problem is with the unit and not the firmware. It may not be cost effective to try and repair the unit, but you might be able to get the DVD player part and install it in the same box you have now.
