Question about Apple Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My Macbook froze up. I tried restarting it but it takes me to a blank white screen. Everytime I turn it on I hear the chime and can see the cursor. I got a flashing folder with a question mark once and I also hear a clicking sound from where the harddrive is located

You need to use your start up disc. Install disc, press start button and hold down "C" key - then follow onscreen instructions.

Pull battery, let sit 3 mins, then retry start up with disc. If that doesn't do it, then you have hard drive issue.

White screen of death on Macbook 13". when turning

You may need to reset the PRAM.
Start your computer and hold down the option, command (apple), P and R keys simultaneously until you hear the second chime. Then release.

This will reset the perimeter RAM (PRAM) and may allow your system to start, which it will do immediately if it capable.
If this is not the case and you have already tried removing the RAM and the HD, you may need to have the motherboard tested.

Mac book chimes on start up but no screen comes on

Make sure the MagSafe adapter is securely attached to the Macbook and free of debris.

There are two procedures that are advised by Apple to assist in resolving issues where the Macbook chimes at start up, but displays no video.

Here is the first procedure:
Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

• First, hold in your power button for approximately 10 seconds to do a hard shutdown, if you have not already turned your Mac off.

• Once your Mac is shutdown, you will need to perform what is called a PRAM reset (Parameter RAM)

• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously .

• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

• Now, hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.

• Release the keys and allow the Macbook to start up.

Observe to see if your Macbook will boot to the Desk top normally. If it does not, here is the second procedure:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
-SMC RESET-
The System Management Controller is an integrated circuit (computer chip) that is usually on the logic board of your Mac computer.

It is responsible for power management of the computer. It controls backlighting, hard disk spin down, sleep and wake, some charging aspects, trackpad control, and some input/output as it relates to the computer sleeping.

• If the computer is on, turn it off.
• Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the computer's battery.
• Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds
and then release the button.
• Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
• Press the power button to restart the computer

Update me if you require further assistance.

When I start up my G4 I doesn't get past the white logo screen with the circular icon spinning. Have removed battery and depressed start up button until a loud beep occurs but still nothing

I had a problem with my hard discs. That's where I got, but my screen froze after a few minutes. try pressing apple + s after the chime. See if you can search around there. Also, try holding the shift key when you hear the chime, or when booting if you don't normally hear the chime, and hold it 'till you see the apple logo.

My iBook G4 continues to run slowly and/or freeze

Try resetting the PRAM by turning on the iBook then holding option + command + P + R and wait till u hear another chime. If it still freezes, it may indicate an application may be causing it to lock up hold shift after you hear the chime to boot OS X into safe boot.
