Question about Nokia 6131 Cellular Phone

1 Answer

ARGH! I'm trying to sync my mothers never synced, 5yr old Nokia 6131 - which is full of contacts and diary appointments to pcsuite, so that we can get her a smartphone (you know, and put all the appointments/contacts back on the new phone). After many days of cleaning her laptop, deleting conflicting drivers and reinstalling pcsuite, I've got that working. I've EVEN managed to find the solution to the 'enhancemenet not supported' problem I had with the first cable I tried to link the two (no bluetooth). And now...when I start syncing, the phone crashes awfully. To the point of turning itself blank, for a few times, even with battery removal/replacement...taking a good 15mins to return to normal (those hands, I've never been so pleased to see). Anyone got any suggestions as to why this may be, and what I may do to combat it? I'm using PCsuite 7.1, on a new(ish) AspireOne notebook running Windows XP. Will updating the phone's firmware clear all the contacts? Do you know if Optus (in Australia) have means to 'port' from this phone to (say) an HTC Desire Q? Thanks awfully, in advance!

That happens when some of the contacts have invalid characters. That happened to me once and I had to figure out the one contact entry that's making the whole process stop. What I did was to copy all the contacts to the default Address Book in Windows and then when I got a new phone, I just copied and pasted the contacts to the Phone using PC Suite.

You can also copy them to the memory card as you can see in the phonebook there is an option called Back Up to memory card. It goes to the Memory Card > Other> Contacts folder.

Also, you can go to the Phone Browser in My Computer, copy the contacts (should be in .vcf format) to My Documents for example and then paste on the new phone using PC Suite.

Will the new Droid Phone allow for wireless sync with outlook calender, contacts and e-mail without the use of a server?

companionlink has a couple of sync products. The cheap one only syncs when requested, the more expensive can be scheduled to run as frequently as every few minutes. You could also try google sync for appointments and soocial.com for contacts, both free. Soocial.com doesn't like contact pictures.

Nokia 6131

See if you can unfold the phone a bit to see the display enough.

Go to menu. Phone book. Move contacts. select from phone to sim card.

The other way you can do it too is get ahold of of usb cord for Nokia on line and download Nokia PC Suite from Nokia.com. You can sync your contacts onto your computer and synch them to your new phone as well.

Unresolved Items when synching

Try the following.... Open Active sync on your PC. Double Click on Calendar. Change the settings such that it syncs only 0 past and 0 future appointments. SYNC (this will clear all calendar items on the IPAQ) Now go back in to those Calendar settings, and set it back to the default which is 2 past weeks and All Future appointments. SYNC (this will now reload all appointments into your Ipaq)
