Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines
The Pump is directly behind the bottom panels plug. The Pump is gravity fed via a large pipe connected to the bottom of the drum sink (The bit that collects all the water from the the bit that spins). There are 2 outputs from the pump. The pressure side (coming out of the hose) and the auxillary drain (the black plug behind the bottom panel). Undo the plug as mentioned above... and if you have taken the thing outside to drain it, you might as well tip the machine up on its side and pull out the big hose off the drum sink (mentioned in a post above) to check that nothing is blocking that either, As you will see when you tip it up and look in from underneath the machine, it's just a small pump, easilily accessible. Nothing complicated about it.

Remove the bottom casing covering the front of the machine just above the floor. Unscrew the circular cap SLOWLY- beware of vast amounts of water escaping though!
I had to use a low height roasting pan to catch water, and just unscrew the cap enough so as to control the flow of water, and enable to empty water away until its all gone. Incidentally, an old hairgrip was found to be the cause of my problem.
Confusingly, "clean pump" meant clean filter!

The same thing happened to me and it was because there were socks stuck where the drain pipe attaches to the machine. If you tip your machine on its side and pull the black pipe off from the bottom of the drum you can remove anything which is stuck. Then it just clips back on again with a metal clip.

Remove bottom plastic panel across the front of machine- it just clips off (use a small screwdriver or bread knife to prise off). You will now see a round filter behind this panel- unscrew anticlockwise to remove- this is the filter. Sometimes filter can be hard to remove if you have things jammed in it- give it bit of a jiggle and it should come out without forcing it. Remember- if there is still water in the machine, this water will come out on the floor once you remove the filter- put down some towels!! Happy fixing!!
