Question about Computers & Internet

Quickbooks Pro 2008 installed on XP SP2 Quickbooks say this is a windows issue. I believe otherwise. A brand new computer with XP SP2 - loaded QB Pro 2008. When starting the program a grey box pops up stating that the registration txt file needs to removed and QB reinstalled. The program goes no further than stay in this loop when you try the above then sends an error report to intuit. This is genuine software and license. Have reinstalled, cleaned registries and even done a fresh reinstallation of XP any suggestions would help...

    Dear Wizbits,

I guess the question we all are asking is, have you contacted Intiut's Tech Support and what do they say (or blame) the problem is?

    Thanks.

  • Coss May 11, 2010

Did you install .net 2.0 on that machine?

QB needs .net installed to run.

There is SP3 for XP and I find a lot of stations are a whole lot happier with SP3.
Will it change what QB is doing? I doubt it, but it does make the machine happier.
Can it be Firefox? Maybe.

I would next recommend calling Intuit to see if they have any recommendations. I have found depending on the support tech you talk to at the time at Intuit, and different answers you can get. I skip the free help from them, and go for the gold (we do pay for that once a year). QB has become such a convoluted program, fixes that used to work, no longer apply.

I run QB Pro 08 at 17 different offices, and don't have any problems with it.

I have Quickbooks 2008 and agree with Coss71, you need .NET 2.0 in order for it to run properly in addition to SP2.

I bought a new laptop and need to transfer my quickbooks pro 2008 from old computer to new one

So long as you have a valid, REGISTERED copy of QBPRO, this should be no problem... You'll need the phone number and ZIP code of the person or entity under which you entered the registration.

Install QB Pro 2008 on the new laptop, register it (you'll need an internet connection) and go ahead and click on help...update quickbooks and let it do it's thing.

Then (If you're using an XP machine...) COPY your intuit directory (usually located at C:\documents and settings\all users\shared doctuments\intuit) over to the new machine in the shared documents folder.

After you have copied the data, open QB Pro and choose "open an existing company", then navigate to where you placed your intuit files and open the company in question.

Went to open Quickbooks pro 2008 and received an error code of 80029c4a. It also said there was an error loading type library/DLL. Any solutions? Thanks

Update your Quickbooks, run reboot.bat, restart your computer and then restart Quickbooks

  1. Open the folder containing the reboot.bat file:
  2. Windows Vista: Right-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop and select Open file location.
  • Window XP:
    1. Right-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop and select Properties.
    2. Click Find Target.
  1. Double-click the reboot.bat file

Reinstalling 2002 pro

Sorry to tell you that you will need to upgrade. Quickbooks is only compatable with Vista in 2008 and up. Quckbooks is not doing anything to resolve older issues.

Quickbooks Pro 2008 Payroll problem

I had to reinstall Quickbooks 2008 on a Windows installation that never had it on there before (virtual machines are handy) and now it works again. I am staying far away from letting it upgrade to latest; that's how my troubles started. I also doubt I will ever shell out money for a more recent version; I upgraded from 2005 to 2008 and it took away the ability to do automatically do IRS 941 forms if you don't pay for monthly payroll services. There has to be better accounting software that doesn't leave users stranded at year-end.

Quickbooks Pro-restoring a back up from a previous version 2005

If is any help - we have just had the same problem.......had version 5 (very old) of QB
changed computer to Vista and would not work so had to buy Pro 208 for Vista . We really had to get in touch with Quickbooks - they send you a free upgrade kit (disc which is Pro 2006 version (not a fuull version but enogh to get the data over) then you load that on your old machine transfer your data to that then copy that again - then load into Pro 2008 - worked fine for us - have come across a hiccup with VAT - but however I guess we are going to have to give in and phone them after the Bank holiday........apart from that everything was fine.

be brave and phone 'em - tech support was helpful.
