Question about Jandy Lite 2 Natural Gas Pilot Light Heater

1 Answer

Heater set-up is ok with water flow confirmed the heater will try to light up (can hear clicking sound) then a significant flame will come from the heater forcing the front cover off. Have not started since but before calling a gas service man any ideas. The are at the bottom of the heater has been exposed to water and wondering if this could be an issue.

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

The jets nearest to the ignitor are clogged causing a large ignition flame roll-out. You can try to fix this by unthreading them from the manifold and cleaning out all the orifices. Once done your unit should return to lighting normally.

Any idea why my Atwood water heater will shut the main burner and the pilot light off at the same time? Sometimes runs for 20 minutes, sometimes 2. I hear a clicking sound, then they both shut off.

The thermostat shuts off the main burner. The pilot light gas is controlled by the thermocouple which the side of the pilot flame has to envelop. If the flame is too small or too far away from the flame, it shuts the gas off to the pilot. The thermocouple generates a small voltage which keeps the pilot gas open. It can over time fail itself, so look at replacing it. The thermostat sounds like it's failing too.

Outlet water gets so hot it ballooned the PVC pipe like an anuresum. Lights and shuts down, assuming that is a limit switch working properly. Filters cleaned last month/water pressure seems adequate.

Your thermopile that tells the heater how hot the water is has failed. It should kill the heat at a temperature of 104f. This also indicates that the limits are not doing their job, as they should be killing the heat at 135f (low limit) or 150f (high limit). Schedule 40 pvc is rated at about 140f.
This many failures at once is rare, and typically indicates that the heater has been rigged. Get a tech out to fix it correctly. You are literally playing with fire.

Bosch aquastar Aq125-hx does not produce hot water. Pilot is ok. Gas and Flame heat is ok. water pressure is ok. Just no hot water getting to the faucets. Help.

That particular tankless water heater has hydro-generated ignition. In order for it to function, it requires a certain water pressure and velocity. You can try turning on the hot water in two location in your house to see if that gets it started. If it does, try getting a higher flow shower head, or removing the limiters in your faucets.

Pilot light will not automatically light when hot water is turned on

This is a great unit! Try turning the flow nob to the half way point and the flame all the way to low. Run the hot water tap and slowly turn the flame dial until you hear the unit try to light. Every house is different regarding the restrictions in the plumbing and water pressure. Once the unit tries to light that is your minimum setting. It is best to leave it there.
