Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

Open Question

My kenmore 417.94862302 stacked washer/gas dryer has a problem. It work intermittently. Here are some symptoms: -It acts as if it has no power- neither the washer not the dryer respond, but electrical outlet is verified hot. The dryer light will not come on in those instances. -An hour later, dryer works as it should, without unplugging the power or anything, just given some time it will work again. -when the washer runs, it will not spin. Motor makes a sound like a sewing machine motor w/pedal partially depressed. -when washer runs, it will pump water in and out. -when washer should be spinning there is a very slight whine from the timer unit. This may be normal because if the spin was working you probably would not hear it. These problems began at the same time, so they are obviously related, which is great because it can only be so many things, right? I figure someone who knows these machines will know exactly what ails this machine. If the problems were just with the washer- I would be half way to tearing the motor out, but it is something that relates to both the washer AND the dryer--- that should be a very good clue for the right mind. Thanks !

SOURCE: Washing machine wont spin

Try and help it to spin in the spin mode.. if it moves.. sounds like a clutch problem ..IF NOT... you may have something like nail, screw ect... binding the spin tub from moving.. get a flash lite do some close checking inside the spin tub

SOURCE: Kenmore 80 series won't spin

If it is draining then the motor is turning the pump so it is ok.
This washer has no belt so that is not the problem.
Remove the cabinet and bypass the lid switch wires and put into a spin. Watch the clutch to see if it is turning. If the clutch housing is not turning and you know for sure the coupler is not broken then you need a new transmission. If the clutch housing is turning but the basket is not spinning you have something binding the basket or you need a new basket drive and clutch.
If you have only looked at the coupler from underneath you may not be able to tell if it is broken in the center. If it is broken again your transmission is not staying in neutral drain until the water is drained. That means it is going into spin with full load of clothes and water. This puts a lot of pressure on the coupler and causes them to fail prematurely. If this is the case you will need a new transmission.
Post back if you have any questions.

gabehart....sounds like belt is slipping. Replace it. The water pump is on a separate smaller motor so is not affected by the agitator/spin motor.

SOURCE: Pressure Washer quit running

I have owned four of those units. Every one of them did what you are experiencing or just wouldn't give me any pressure after only a few uses. The company was certainly no help. I gave up after four and bought a heavier gas model from Lowes. Hope this info helps.

Want to know if I can stack a kenmore elit gas dryer on a kenmore elite washer and on top of a 10 inch pedistal or will it be too tall?

The appliances were not designed to be stacked so I would not attempt it if anything I would build a shelf (ledge) to put the dryer on, then bracket it to the wall but be careful of the height especially with a gas dryer and be sure to have plenty of space for airflow. Good luck

Squeeling sound on spin cycle

This sounds like the same problem I had with my 887-327. It seems that coins can fall into the water pump from the bottom of the drum. I had to pull the water pump off the direct drive and turn the blades until the dimes came out. After I reinstalled the pump everything was quite again.

Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too. Height of exit hose (behind machine) should be approx 3 feet from ground level when you are re-fitting.

Rate me pl.....if helped.
