Why is red light blinking

The red lamp you are referring to is called the Access Lamp. This lamp usually illuminates if the camera is reading or writing information to the memory card. If this is blinking erratically, this could indicate an issue with the memory card. It is recommended that you try using another memory card with the camera to isolate the issue

Memory access lamp continually blinks even when off...camera functions normally( as far as I can tell) but lamp drains battery even when off

This may be that your memory card has a fault and the camera is trying to write to it.
Can you try another memory card?
Memory cards can develop faults.
A memory card format in the camera may help but this will wipe all your photos.

When i try to turn my camera on it flashes a small red light and then it won't turn on, how do i fix this?

Hi,

The Red indicator flashing in the Camera may be the Access Lamp or the Power Lamp. The Access Lamp is located below the Control buttons and the Power Lamp near to the power button. If the Access Lamp is flashing, it indicates that the Camera is accessing the Memory. Do not remove the Memory Stick or Batter while the Access Lamp is lit.

If the Power Lamp is flashing, it indicates that the Camera is turned on. If the Lamp is lit in Red it shows that the Battery is not having enough charge. Insert new batteries or charged Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries to resolve the issue.

You may also try power resetting the Camera. To power reset the Camera, remove the batteries from the Camera and then press and hold the POWER BUTTON of the Camera for 15 seconds and then reinsert the batteries after 1 minute and check if the Camera works normally. If the issue persists, service may be required.

Thanks

Nikon D90 Memory Card Access Blinking

It's a deadly common problem of D90. Fixation:Simply go to the DSLR repair shop and ask them to change the power circuit board of the camera. Will take $60-70 if the board available. Reason of issue:The power control IC get short and feedback the battery power to the battery causing the draining out and other problem like the top LCD back lamp turned ON after turning on the camera. Careful:To avoid this issue in future, after full charge of the battery, do not put it in the camera right then. Wait for the battery to cool down for 5-10 min and then put it in. With the full charge, the battery hold high ampere for a short time. It could damage the power distributor IC suddenly if you put it in the camera right after a full charge. WHEN POUTTING INN A MEMORY CARD ON NIKON DSLR CAMERAS THE GREEN LIGHT WILL BLINK ONE TIME .
