Question about General Electric 28871FE3 Phone

I have the GE 28871 DECT 6.0 Telephone/Answering System and the answering machine portion has developed a very bad static problem. It is so bad that most calls the persons message cannot be understood or heard over the static. Everything else is working fine. Any solutions to the static in the answering machine?

    My problem is also with the excess static on the answering machine. I have reset the date and time, and there may be slight improvement, but there is still too much static to hear clearly. Is there any other solution?

You will need to setup your answering menu date/time on the LED message indicator. Repeatedly depress ans. menu until it says to adjust the day, date, time of day in order to match your LCD settings.

The red light on the handset charger turns on to indicate that the handset battery is charging. The light will blink to show the handset is charging and remain on when the handset is charged.

Here is a link to download the manual in pdf format. The answer machine can be set to answer in 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 rings. If your service provider(Frontier) forwards an unanswered call to the message service after 4 rings and your answer machine is set to answer after 6 rings, calls will never be answered by the answer machine. Frontier could be forwarding only busy calls to the message service but often busycalls and no answer calls are forwarded. You imply there has been a change in your service provider, the new company Frontier may not have kept your phone features the same, which may explain the difference. If you don't want your unanswered calls forwarded to the message service, call Frontier to change.

Are you sure the message in on your answering machine and not a voicemail system provided by your telephone company? Many telephone companies offer a voicemail system that takes messages if someone calls while you're already on the phone.

Static


If the telephone line itself is static-free, connect a normal telephone to the same jack that the answering machine uses. If all calls are static-free, you've cleared the wiring and the telephone service provider. Next, plug the telephone into the jack on the back of the answering machine. If all calls are clean, but messages are still loaded with static, then we may be talking about a bad answering machine. If you have DSL service, make sure that there is a filter installed between the wall jack and the cord that goes to the answering machine.

i was having similar problems. i called my telephone/internet service provider. they suggested putting a filter on the phone line. now my reception on my ge phone is perfect but the phone's answering machine no longer works.
