Question about 831002/4100 4100 REMOTE START SYSTEM WITH 2 AUXILIARY CHANNELS

2 Answers

After starting vehicle with remote start and manually shutting it down, vehicle will not restart manually until I lock and unlock the doors using the remote. Also, LED light flashes on blink. (Timed out) Everything has worked fine for years and just started the above problem. I replaced the relay but did not help. The alarm is an Avital 3200 Avistart installed in a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban.

I've tried replacing the battery as suggested. It did not change the problem. The remote works fine and does all functions as programmed. It appears to either be in the programming or a problem with the "brain."

  • Brett Jackson Mar 16, 2011

No, manually locking and unlocking using the door switche does not cure the problem. You must lock and unlock the doors using the Avital remote before it will start.

  • Brett Jackson Mar 16, 2011

No blown fuses and nothing done to the vehicle. The installer (Good Guys) are no longer in business. I can't get DEI to stand behind their alarm without the origanal installer. I'll try to replace the battery in the remote again. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to buy another alarm. I can gauentee it won't be a DEI product again.

  • Brett Jackson Mar 16, 2011

No, the "security" light is only present when started with the auto start. I've replaced the battery and rechecked all the wiring. Everything seems correct. Also, I've noticed the two dome lights in the roof do not come on when the doors are opened. The lights in the doors and under the dash come on though. It has to be somewhere in the "brain" of the alarm.

Have you tried what you did above but instead of using the button, unlock and lock the doors by hand and see if it starts. Let me know. I am going to have to ask a few questions just to clarify some symptoms. Thanks.

It sounds like the locking and unlocking the doors is re-enabling communication with remote to the module. I would look at the battery in the remote, and also since you are re-enabling comm with the module and it works, see if a replacement receiver is available for the actual module in the vehicle. It seems that it also has the potential to be an issue with the vehicle as well. Have any fuses blown recently, or have you replaced anything as far as vehicle relays or components that involve the ignition system?

Man thats a bummer. Its so hard to diagnose these things through chat, I wish there was more I could do. When you go to start it manually, does the yellow "anti theft" light appear on the instrument cluster?

Thats what it sounds like to me. I wish I could do more for you, but with out being there with a meter there isn't much I can do. Sorry. If you come up with something else in the meantime, just shoot a comment back and I will try to do my best to troubleshoot. Thanks.

Hi,

According to your problem you can first change your remote battery to if it is not malfunctioned for battery. Before start the vehicle press lock key for 1 second to lock the door from remote. If the door locks are connected then horn will honk and the parking light will flash once. If the system is armed then status Led will flash once per second. After check it you can start your vehicle. But don't remote start your vehicle when the key is in ignition. It may help you to solve your problem.

To know more you can follow the manual.

Car dies when I use my remote start and press the lock or unlock button

This is most likely caused by the car's anti-theft system. Most newer cards require a separate module to be installed to override the anti-theft system while the remote start is in use. Otherwise, when the anti-theft system detects an anomaly, it will immobilize the vehicle.
DEI makes a 556H module for this purpose. The link shows the instrall manual for this device.

Will not unlock doors. Battery is good and flashes all lights on transmitter and LED inside vehicle. Remote start will start up and shut down vehicle fine. Just does not lock or unlock doors. Locks work...

Have you changed the battery recently? My remote has a bad habot of slightly misaligning the cel switches if I don't close it exactly right. For my Chrysler van the sliding door switch is affected that way. All else works, though. I end up opening the remote again and ensuring it snaps shut all the way around with just one compression. If an edge doesn't close it's try again. The good news is it's virtually always the remote at issue and nothing expensive in the vehicle.

There is a security feature that will allow to go for a short distance but will stop. It is basically the same as the alarm, when you lock your doors, and then shut the door as you exit, there is a red security light that will blink in the dash. If you manually unlock and open any other door besides the driver door, the alarm will go off. To disable the alarm you have to cycle the key in the driver door. The same goes for the security feature. Cycling the key in the driver door lock manually, should disable the security feature until the doors are locked again. There may be a problem with the remote if you use it instead of you key to unlock your door.
