Fuser Error 5.2 - HP LaserJet 2840 Printer

I replaced the fuser. I have redone the USB cable directly to the computer usb, eliminating the hub. I have run the power cable directly to the wall outlet, bypassing surge protectors. I get this error msg almost all of the time, with an occasional successful print.

  • Rick Goeringer Mar 16, 2011

I replaced the fuser, it didn't help the error msg. Any other ideas?

  • Rick Goeringer Mar 16, 2011

Any other thoughts about this issue? Do you know a repair station, not HP that might work on it?

  • Rick Goeringer Mar 16, 2011

    Standing by for your research.

  • Rick Goeringer Mar 16, 2011

I will work on your solutions tomorrow and let you know the outcome, thank you for now, I trust I can ask you opinion if I need further help?

There are four possibilities to resolve the issue or fix the error.
    1. Detach the AC connector and measure the resistance between pin 1 and 2. If it
is mega-ohm, the thermostat is open, Replace it.
    2. Check if there is a bad connector contact or if the wire is cut.
    3. Check the thermistor wire and its connection.
    4. Replace the Main PBA
This is the perfect solution of this error.

1. Turn the printer off and allow

it to cool down.

2. Reinstall the fuser, and check

the connector (J100) that

connects the fuser and the

printer. Replace the

connector if it is damaged.

3. Turn the printer off and

remove the fuser. Measure

the resistance between the

connector pins on the fuser. If

resistance does not meet the

following guidelines, replace

the fuser.

J100LB-5 to J100LB-6: 300 -

500 KOhms

J100LB-1 to J100LB-2: less

than 1 KOhm

4. Check for continuity between

connector pins J100-5 and

J100-6. If there is no

continuity, replace the fuser.

5. Replace the fuser power

supply PCB.

6. Replace the DC controller

PCB. Calibrate the printer

after replacing the DC
controller.

Its usually the fuser when this error pops up though and heres a good place to get it pretty reasonable

2. Check that connector J6007 on the fuser is seated correctly. Replace the connector as necessary.
3. Turn off the printer.
4. Remove the fuser.
5. If there is no conduction in the main thermistor, measure the resistance between fuser connectors J6007LA-1 and J6007LA-3. If the resistance is not 100 kohms to 3 Mohms, replace the fuser.
6. If there is no conduction in the fuser heater, measure the resistance between fuser connectors J6007LAF-1 and J6007-2. If the resistance is not 5 ohms to 1 kohms (100 to 127 V) or 20 ohms to 1 kohms (220 to 240 V), replace the fuser.
7. Upgrade the DC controller firmware.

To test fuser out of circuit make sure lamp and thermal fuse are not open circuit, and thermister is neither open or shorted

Fuser repair procedure from tec manual.
Fuser Failure (U4-1, U4-2, & U4-3)

Problem solved.
3 Replace the Fuser Assembly The error message reappears.

Problem solved.
4 Check for a broken wire or a loose connection
between components
5 Measure the AC voltage between J23-2 and J23-6 on the AC Driver PWB. There is 110VAC (or 220VAC if the printer is the 220VAC model) between J23-2 and J23-6.
Y N

Go to step 7.
6 Replace the Fuser Assembly (REP 4.7.1). If the problem persists, replace the Printer Engine
Controller PWB (REP 4.10.6).
