Its a vidio/audio input which looks like this. If you have an hdmi port on a laptop you can connect it to a TV and have the audio and video transfer to the TV.

HDMI stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface, and that's a pretty good description of what it is. In layman's terms, HDMI is a type of digital connection that's capable of transmitting high-definition video and high-resolution audio over a single cable. To do the same thing with analog cables, you'd need to connect three component-video cables plus six analog audio cables--that's a whole lot of cable clutter. HDMI is typically used to connect a high-definition device--such as an HD DVR--to an HDTV. To make the connection, you simply put one end of the cable into the HDTV's HDMI input slot and the other end into the device's HDMI output slot. And that's it--just one cable and you're all set for the high-definition experience. If you have an AV receiver, just put it in the middle of the signal chain. The output of the AV receiver goes to the HDTV and you connect your high-definition device(s) to the AV receiver's input.

TVs need an input to display a picture. Some TVs have several inputs and you must select the one you are using. Example: my TV has four HDMI inputs on the back. If I connect my PC to one of the HDMI ports I must select that input in setup to display My HDMI ports are labeled HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI 3, and HDMI 4.
If I connect my PC to HDMI 3, I must select in setting HDMI 3 as the input.

I want to connect my pc to an Samsung LCD hdmi-hdmi

HDMI and DVI are both digital signals, therefore if you used DVI - DVI it would be the same as HDMI - HDMI.
If you really want to use HDMI - HDMI you could purchase a DVI - HDMI adaptor for your graphics card. Contact your favorite computer store.

Take care!

Just set up RX-A700 two things seem wrong. 1. HDMI 1 won't show video if HDMI is plugged in, once plug on HDMI is removed from receiver HDMI 1 works perfectly. 2. HDMI output needs to be held tight or else...

sounds to me like a bad HDMI cable. Just replace it.
If HDMI still wont show, move to another HDMI port. But based on having to hold HDMI cable with hand to steady the connection, it is either a bad HDMI cable, or a bad HDMI port on the receiver. Good luck

What kind of cable if any can i use to make my wd52526 proj tv my pc comp monitor

Your projection TV has HDMI input so you would need to either run an HDMI-HDMI cable from an HDMI output on your computer or, more likely, a DVI-HDMI cable from the DVI output on teh computer to the HDMI input on the TV. If ycou can'T find a DVI-HDMI cable note that you can also buy DVI/HDMI adapters for one end of an HDMI-HDMI cable.

Note that DVI is HDMI minus the sound so if you do run DMI to HDMI you'll also need to route the sound to your TV or other amplifier.

If you only have a VGA output on your computer then you will not be able to easily run this to your TV as VGA is an anologue signal while DVI and HDMI are digital. To do this you'd need a converter.

Hope this helps. If so then please rate my advice.

Thanks

When setting up my home theater system, do I want to plug the HDMI cable into the TV in the HDMI In slot or HDMI out slot. Do I want to plug it into the HDMI In slot for the blu ray system or the HDMI...

You plug the home theater system into the television's hdmi in slot. However you want to plug the blu ray player into the HOME theater system's hdmi in slot not the television's.

Then you can take another hdmi cable and connect the hdmi out from the television into another hdmi in on the home theater if you have enough room.

HTMI errors on the following devices DVD Blue-ray HDMI connected; CD Not HDMI connected; VCR Not HDMI connected; satellite works OK HDMI to Yamaha - HDMI to TV NO HDMI error displayed; GUI does not display...

You have to use Component Video on this unit. HDMI will not "Handshake" and pass thru. This was HDMI's first version "1.1a" and there is no fix. Use your receiver to switch audio via Coaxial or optical then use HDMI directly from BLURAY etc to your TV. The downside to this is how many HDMI inputs your TV has. It's an awesome receiver! Don't blame Yamaha!!! This issue is directly attributable to "HDMI" and their race to shelves before truly field testing the product. The current version of HDMI is 1.3b and soon to be 1.4 which includes ethernet capabilities.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news! If you would like an "in depth" look into the world of HDMI issues, Google HDMI problems or HDMI forums, and you can read for hours. Hope this helps
