I assume you are talking about a air nailer, when the piston doesn't return it is usually a broken driver or a jamb in the nose piece. Hope this helps, if so give us a 4 thumbs up. THANKS

Why wont my hatachi nail gun shoot 1 3/16 nail all the time

Has the tool been lubricated properly to Hitachi's recommendation? Is the airline pressure running about 90-100 psi? If not try giving it more pressure. Sometimes the compressor may have too smaller receiver (Tank) for what you are trying to use it for, leaving the tool unable to return the piston/driver to top dead centre.

I just put a repair kit in my sx150 stapler and it fires put will not recoil i think im missing a spring in the bottom of the piston cylinder?

The Bostitch SX150 pneumatic brad nailer/stapler uses air to both drive the brad or staple and to return the driver/piston assembly to the top of the gun for the next firing. There is no spring that goes into the sleeve or under the piston. If your driver is not returning to the top of the gun you may have put an o-ring or seal in the wrong place or left one out. The o-rings and check seal on the bottom half of the driver sleeve are what control the air that returns the piston to the top so check those first.

DOESN'T FEED,IT MIGHT MISS SHOOT A TIME OR TWO THEN GET A NAIL THEN NOT FEED.I'M SHOOTING A 1.5"TECO NAIL. ANOTHER GUN DOESN'T SHOOT EVERY TIME LIKE THE DEPRESSOR ISN'T LETTING THE...

Usually miss feed happens when the driver does not return to top position not allowing the nails to feed into position. Easy to check, point nose of nailer up then down again to see if the driver is loose in the cylinder. If loose, the driver will be in the down position when the side door is opened. If driver is down, replace driver oring. If driver oring is good, look for spring tension on feeder and check feeder spring on the door side. If piston oring good and feeders have good spring tension, suspect lower bumper cracked(remove head and piston to check bumper).
On gun with depressor (safty foot) not actuating trigger, look for worn trigger (trigger inner lever could be worn) or loose or worn firing pin in the trigger valve above the trigger(valve # tva6). Replace as needed. To check for proper gun action, remove the nails, remove the 3mm roll pin holding trigger and dry fire the gun by depressing the tigger pin. Good luck

My bostich1664FN was working fine, then it stopped shooting nails. How can I troubleshoot this problem. Thanks John

Here are some easy tests.
Assuming that the gun is firing normally however no nails are ejected. Remove the head of the gun and check if the piston is not returning to top of cylinder (piston needs to return to top for nail to enter into positon under the driver). Piston not returning to top indicates, bent driver or worn oring on piston. Repair /replace as needed. If driver/oring looks good, pull out the cylinder and look for check band in place around series of holes on lower part of cylinder and bumper should not be cracked. Lube all orings with silicone paste lube. Good luck

I was shooting 3 inch nains and I switched to 2 inch. after 20 or 30 nails it failed to drive a nail. The driver makes an indention in the wood but does not drive the nail. What are the problem...

Check that the driver is returning all the way to top of the cylinder. Driver will not return to top when lower bumper is cracked, driver is bent, or piston oring is too loose/tight or low air pressure to gun. Also check that the two inch nail is the same angle as the three in. Place the nails on the outside of the rails with the heads aligned with the rail. The first nail should align with the path of the driver. If the head of the first nail is angled back away from the path of the driver, will miss fire.

Inside the cap, there's a plastic circular insert. It's a common mistake to reassemble the gun with this cap spacer upside down, resulting in the top of the cylinder not sealing in the air that returns the piston. Simply undo the cap, turn the spacer over and screw it back on again. Done.

My brad nailer will not shoot any nails. When I press the trigger, I can hear a small puff of air.

it sounds like the piston/driver might be stuck or the firing valve is malfunctioning. there are 4 screws to remove the top cap and you can see if the driver is damaged. Also before removing check to make sure there is not a nail jammed in the nose assembly. This tool is good for breaking the pin on the piston.

Nail would not shoot out

The problem that you describe is caused when the driver is not returning all the way back up to the top of the cylinder not allowing the nails to enter into position . You may have one of several problems including worn piston oring, bent driver, worn check valve, worn lower bumper, or low air pressure. Simple test is to manually push the driver blade back to top using a thin piece of metal that fits into bottom of gun. Be sure to disconnect from air supply when doing this. Good Luck
