Question about Celestron FirstScope 80 AZ (189 x 80mm) Telescope

1 Answer

Looking for a part for a Celestron FirstScope 80. The light gathering end of the tube screws off - I dented that piece when it struck the pavement. I am looking for a replacement part. Focal length of the FirstScope 80 is 910 mm and the Diameter is 80 mm. Thanks for any assistance you can provide. Bill

No one cells a lens cell for this small telescope. Only Meade may have the part. You can call them and see--

However I doubt that they actually stock that part as the tube is imported from overseas.

There is either a tiny slide out watch style battery holder, or something that unscrews with the watch battery inside.

When looking through I can see the shadow of the little reflector inside it. We focused in on a star and saw it perfectly but we also couldn't figure out why we were seeing the shadow of the little mirror...

You are not in focus! Was the star ROUND and looked like a donut? Stars are pinpoints of light. They look the same through any size telescope-- exactly the same as without a telescope!

Try focusing on the moon next time.

I have bought a Nexstar 80 from a garage sale. It did not come with an eye piece. I have one now. (Celestron 20mm) I still cannot focus on anything. Is there some other adapter that I need to focus?...

You need a DIAGONAL see this picture, it's basically an "l" shaped accessory that fits into the end of the telescope so you look DOWN into the eyepiece.

Celestron has sold a few different 4.5" Newtonians. The finest was the C4.5 by Vixen of Japan. the manual is here:

The FirstScope 114 is another and the manual is here:

SMA is for symetrical modified achromate. A Kellner eyepiece design. This is an inexpensive eyepiece, but not a bad one. A lunar filter is basically a sunglass lens for the eyepiece to cut down on the moon's brightness. for camera adapters. HTH, Geo.
