I would first find out what pressure the compressor is supposed to shut off at. If it is supposed to shut off at lets say 110 then the pop off valve is doing its job you have to reset the pressure switch so it shuts off less than 120 pounds.

make sure you haven't cross connected the glad hands if you're hooked to a trailer.

You could have a diaphragm bad on one of the wheels.

Do you drain oil/water a couple times a day to keep system clean? Add alcohol especially if it's already freezing in your area.

Can I use another Central Pneumatic pump on my 61490 air compressor?

sure harbor freight tools sells new air compressor pumps, just be sure new one matches the R.P.M of the motor or I may damage it if it turns too fast of may not make enough air if it goes to slow , also be aware if belt pulley changes its diameter then pump speed will also change

I have a 21 gallon 4hp peak motor Central Pneumatic oil lubricated Model 47065 air compressor and it will not go to over 20 psi and it will just keep running

Possible that there is leak on the system or the piston/rings/cylinder has worn out. Also check for oil within the unit. Check the compression of the cycle and if this is too low it means that there is wear and tear and will require a overhauling and reset.

I have a Central Pneumatic, 21 Gallon, 3HP air compressor. The compressor is exiting air through exthaust port.

If air leaks when motor is off, fault most likely in-tank check valve. Follow discharge air line from pump to tank. Brass/steel valve at tank is the check valve. Remove hose to valve and check for leak. Replace as needed. If air is leaking while motor is running fault could be reed valves in head. Faulty reed valves in head, or torn head gaskets will cause very hot discharge air and tank will most likely never fill to shut off (or take a very long time to fill)

Tank gauge shows empty with 5 gallons in tank. I have a 2005 Sierra Truck, Diesel, Has a 26 gallon tank. When it shows empty I fill it with 21 gallons.

The sending unit in the tank is more than likely faulty. These are bad about going out causing this problem. The cost of this repair generaly cost about 800.00 dollars.

Air leakage through pressure switch needle

1)Let your unit pump up.
2)Turn it off.
3)Find the supply line from the pump to the tank.
4)Remove the supply line from the pump head.
5a)If you hear air coming from the tank you have a bad check valve.
5b)If you do not hear air coming from the tank, you have a leaky
pressure switch.

Electric motor stalls

A compressor can stall before completing a cycle if the motor is not receiving correct power, such as when there is an extension cord being used or outlet is overloaded with other appliances. Other problems that cause this condition are in-tank check valve is leaking pressure back to the pump and weak or failed capacitor. Some volt meters have setting for checking caps. Reject the capacitor if reading is 90% of rated value. Rare problems include worn bearing or bad contacts on pressure switch. enjoy
