Are you able to connect other devices to the Internet through this router? Do you have any Access Restrictions set that could be prohibiting Internet traffic?

Just like "I have car keys but can't get to the store", you missed a couple of steps :-)

The Wireless part of the router needs to be turned on. Do you show the SSID (available network) when you click on the View Available Networks icon? What do you get whn you plug a cable from the wired port to the router or network?

If all of that is turned on, you need to right click on Network Neighborhood and check the TCP/IP settings. Generally, the "obtain an IP address Automatically" setting will work for making the Linksys hand out an IP address to your computer.

Outside of that, it's a small help in troubleshooting wireless connections.

If you are connected to the router the problem is likely with the router and your service provider. Call your service provider to inform them that you have a new router that you need to have set up. They will put it into the system so it can operate on their network. If other computers in your house are connected to the internet through it the problem may be with your computer. I hope this gives you a start.

You try to test another one if still have a problem connecting with your wireless router.
If that router can see another wireless network available then maybe your Netgear wireless adapter have a problem incomplete installation or the wireless device is defective.
I have encounter like this before so maybe it's the same with.

Use of router in network

Try reset the router & cable modem. There ia a reset (very small) button on the back of the wireless router & the modem. Disconnect the power cords to both. Use a pen & hold in for 10 seconds (router & modem). Re-connect power (router & modem) & restart PC. If your service still has not returned. Chances are it's your internet provider & not you. Double check by connecting your modem directly to your PC.

Luck!
