Question about Toys

Open Question

I bought 2 spotlight easy mini knitters for my granddaughters (aged 8 and 6 ) last year, and have just discovered them in my sewing basket. Although there are some small pictured instructions on the back of the pack, I would like some more detailed larger instructions, as I can't follow these instructions. I have also bought junior knitting needles for them, but I would like them to try the easy knitters first, as we can move onto the needles later when they're a bit older. Hope you can help Suzanne Scarman

Need help with style elements mini sewing machine

I bought a style elements mini sewing machine for my 9 year old granddaughter so she could learn how to sew. The sewing machine has gone crazy! When you turn the machine on, the needle starts going up and down pretty fast by itself as if it were sewing. There is no way you can even put material down to sew as the needle is moving up and down. We checked the foot pedal to make sure it wasn't stuck and the machine still goes by its self. Needless to say my granddaughter was very upset because she wants to learn to sew. What could possibly be causing the machine to do this?

Granddaughter has a pixie craft machine can't get it to sew bobbin not making connection with the thread in needle

Try a new needle, but I am afraid that it will need service and that usually costs more to fix than you paid for the machine. If, this is true, and she really wants to sew, go to a place that sells machines and gives lessons. She will treasure it the rest of her life. I speak from experience, my granddaughter was 8 years old, and I bought her one of those types and it really discouraged her because there was always a problem. I bit the bullit and went to JoAnn Fabrics and bought her a Singer, they gave her lessons on her machine and answered any questions. Then I signed up for some classes at JoAnn's and now she sews like a little pro, makes doll clothes and she and her sister design some of their own clothes and embellish some of their own. (I think project runway inspired them). Their mom is so proud of them because she cannot sew a stitch. She is banned from their machines, lol. By the way, she is 10 now and her sister is 12 and they formed a little sewing club with their friends and have fashion shows. It was the best money I ever spent and do not regret my decision to buy the right machine. It may cost a little more to begin with but the enjoyment is priceless.

On my granddaughter's 2003 - I ran driver's side, electrical seat back, drove the car up the driveway, and parked it. About a week later I tried to start the car but battery was dead. A brand-new, 3-year...

I think you have a short in the seat motor. Doublecheck circuit breaker for electric seats. It has a reset button on it. Perhaps it has tripped. If yes, need to find short in seat.

The portafilter basket leaks out the sides no matter how firmly held in place or the quantity of coffee in the basket

You need to replace the brew head gasket. It becomes hard and will not seal. Order 2 gaskets because 1 always fails on Friday before a big party on Saturday.

What age group uses the Acer Aspire? I bought one for my 17 year old granddaughter for Christmas but now I'm afraid it may be too young for her?

In my opinion, that is a good desktop computer for that age group. It's fast enough to keep up with multitasking, like having myspace, facebook, twitter, youtube (I have a 15 year old daughter), and hopefully something to do with homework up. It is upgradable to 2GIGs of RAM and you can also upgrade the processor later if she does anything intensive in college.

I have about the same system, although mine is self built, for my daughter and at this time she doesn't need anything more or less.

Have a Merry Christmas and I am sure she will love it.

Maths & statistic

Standard deviation is the average root mean squared deviation from the average of the numbers.

Familiarize yourself with the wikipedia page on standard deviation:

In this case, your question is easy. The standard deviation is 0, so this means the boys ages are all the same.

So they're all 24/3 = 8 years old.

8 + 8 + 8 = 24 <-- satisfies the constraint that the boys ages must total to 24.

Get the standard deviation of these numbers;

8+8+8 / 3 = 8 <-- the average value is 8

The deviation of each boy's age from the average is:
boy 1
8 years old, which deviates from 8 by 0
boy 2
8 years old, which deviates from 8 by 0
boy 3
8 years old, which deviates from 8 by 0

So the deviations are 0, 0 and 0.

To get the standard deviation, you sum the squares of the deviations of each boy, get the average, and square root. So:

0² + 0² + 0² = 0
Average is 0 / 3 = 0
Square root of 0 = 0

So the standard deviation is 0. Which shouldn't be much of a surprise to you. We just had to actually DO the work to show that it was in fact 0.
