The agitatae doesn't seem to be cycling the

The agitator is made in two parts. Upper and lower. The bottom part does the actual agitating.
The upper part is supposed to be loosely fitted. It just screws down the clothes to contact
the bottom agitator slowly.
The top part turns one way, and slips the other way. By the action of what is called "Dogs" inside
the top part. These dogs are probably worn and need to be replaced
Take the top off the agitator and there is one bolt in the middle of the agitator. use a long extension
to reach the bolt and remove it.
Pull off top agitator (keep it straight up so you don't lose the dogs_
Go to local Appliance store and ask for Agitator Dogs.
Replace Dogs exactly as they came out
When you re-assemble the top it will be loose. This is normal.
Good Luck!

Whirlpool top loading cloths washer agitator is loose when it should be turning. how do i tighten it?

Sounds like you might have bad agitator dogs. Remove the agitator cap, theres a 5/16th bolt that needs to be removed then the top of agitator comes off. The dogs are 4 little gears with teeth on them, when they get worn the top half of the agitator doesn't move.

Hello. My Kenmore 80 Series/ Heavy Duty(Model # 110.24852300) is shaking like crazy during it's spin cycles. I've been doing research online about this. I will proceed in turning it over and searching for...

It is not recommended to turn the washer over, or on it's side. These top loaders have a direct-drive gearcase that is filled with oil. Laying the washer down can cause oil to leak from the breather hole on top of the gearcase unit.

I would recommend you check the level of the washer before doing anything else. These model washers have an auto level system on the back two feet, followed by a manual level on the front two feet. The following link explains this leveling system and how to properly level the washer:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3868923-level_whirlpool_top_loading_washer

An unlevel washer is the number one cause of off balance issues and vibration.

If you do wish to view the washer internal components, the correct way of accessing the interior is to remove the exterior washer case. This procedure is not difficult. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3631789-washer_case_removal_whirlpool_top

Other causes of vibration (if the washer is level):

1. Loose suspension springs on the lower support under the drum.
2. Loose agitator bolt causing the agitator spin unbalanced.
3. Loose spanner nut under the agitator causing the wash tub to be loose.
4. Suspension pads under the drum worn out and requiring replacment.

You can view exploded view diagrams of your washer at any of the following websites to assist you with your inspection:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancepartspros.com
appliancepartspros.com

Refer the "Washer Base" drawing for a view of the suspension components. Refer to the "Agitator" parts list for a view of the agitator components.

If you need further assistance, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Agitator problems..

If the problem is just the agitator not working, but everything else does, you may just have a worn agitator cam assembly, worn agitator dogs, loose agitator bolt, or all of the above. The following link explains what agitator dogs are and how to access them:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608577-replacing_agitator_dogs

Whirlpool manufactured washers use a split agitator design. The top half is known as the "auger, while the lower half is the agitator. Between the two pieces is a cam assembly, with small teflon teeth known as "dogs". There's also an agitator bolt that holds the entire assembly to the center post.

If the auger (top half of the agitator) is slipping, I would suspect the dogs or cam assembly need to be replaced. The part number for the dogs is included in the link I provided. For a little more you can purchase the entire cam assembly which includes the dogs, the cam, the cam seal and thrust bearing.

If the entire agitator appears loose or slipping, check the agitator bolt to ensure it is tight. DO NOT overtighten as this can restrict movement of the agitator or damage it. Tighten until snug.

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites are reputable and offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites I listed also include helpful exploded view parts diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you need. If you do not wish to order parts on line, use the part numbers from the Sears website and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. All these parts are commonly sold as part of their in-store inventory.

Thank you for posting your model number. The part numbers you may need are as follows:

Item 10 - If just replacing the Agitator Dogs: 80040.
Item 9 - If replacing the entire Cam Assembly: 285809 (includes the Dogs and the Cam Thrust Bearing).
Item 22 - Spacer Thrust Bearing: 3951608

All these parts can be viewed under the "Agitator, Basket and Tub Parts" section of the parts resource websites I listed for you. The last digit of your model number is a "zero" (0), vice the letter "O".

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.

The agitator is loose and "clunks" as it is washing. How to fix?

You may have a worn agitator cam assembly, worn agitator dogs, or a loose agitator bolt.

Whirlpool uses a split agitator design. The upper portion is called the auger, while the bottom is called the agitator. Between these components is a agitator cam assembly. This problem is commonly caused by either worn agitator dogs, a worn agitator cam assembly, or a loose agitator bolt. The following link explains what the dogs are and how to access and/or replace them. It also explains how to access the bolt and tighten (if necessary):

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608577-replacing_agitator_dogs

The part number for the dogs are included in the link provided. You can purchase replacements at pcappliancerepair.com for about $5. For a little more you can purchase the entire cam replacement kit, which includes the cam, the thrust bearing, and the dogs for about $11 or $12.

NOTE: You can refer to the excellent exploded view parts diagrams the web site has to offer for assistance. Whirlpool also recommends the application of a little grease on the thrust washer. The part number for their recommended grease is AP3098553.

If you aren't sure, or have additional questions about this repair, please post back with your complete model number (located on a nameplate along the wash tub opening under the lid) and let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: DO NOT overtighten the agitator bolt. This can cause damage to the plastic, or restrict the agitator movement. Tighten until snug only.

Agitator not working

Hi, This agitator is a 2 piece agitator. Can you see if the lower half on the agitator is working properly? If the lower part is working and the top is not, you will need to change the agitator dogs. If neither half are working, you might be having transmission issues.
To change the dog kit, re,ove the top cap on the agitator and locate a 7/16" bolt. Remove the bolt and the agitator will lift out. Pull the agitator apart and the dogs are 4 small plastic pieces inside the top half of the agitator.
Please let me know if this helps you or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Kenmore Series 70 top load barely agitates....

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Three places to look.

1. Assuming that this washer has a two piece agitator, I'd check the "agitator dogs" on the top section.

2. It's possible that the splines on the agitator have worn over time.

See the following description of how to remove the agitator.

Look inside the agitator at the splines.

3. It's also possible that the splines on the agitator shaft have worn.

With the agitator off, check the condition of the splines. If they are worn, the options are to replace the agitator shaft (disassembling the transmission) or replacing the transmission itself.
