Have you replaced the lamp? That's the first thing I would try.

A number of possible reasons--from brightness/contrast set too high to a issue with the power supply of the set--a expert would have to examine the set--you might want to call Sony to see if known issue with this model.

Hi, it seems you are experimenting a light engine problem. Here's how your tv works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLLHnQ4y-wo Basically there's 3 LCD chips that create the colors and image by blending together. When these chips start to melt you will get those blue spots, pixilation even vertical lines. You will need to replace the light engine. Have a blessed one! It's also a possibility one of the mirrors that direct the light of the lamp is loose and that's why you get that red stripe, but normally Sony sets have an issue with the light engine ,there was even a law suit against them for that issue.

Sony KP75HW40 unstable red. (not the usual problem)

I would suggest either the Focus block or the RED CRT drive board either one of those items could cause the symptom. A defective CRT could also, but a shorted CRT doesnt usually go back to being normal

Screen flickers upon power up

Looks like your picture tube is dying, or there is a bust capacitor(s) inside...I'd recommend taking it to a service shop to get it repaired.
