Try putting a jumper wire on the wire going from the engine to the seat. Take that plug and put a wire from one side to the other. Be careful not to cut your feet off when engaging deck.

Yes Briggs and Stratton recommends sae 30 in most all their engines even overhead valve (OHV)
Kohler uses 10w-30 in most of their overhead valve engines
Briggs has their own bottled oil with their label and additives and can find at lowes

Remove the primary belt and mowing deck to give yourself some room to work.
Locate the wires from the clutch and follow them toward the frame until you find the plug and unplug it.
Remove the bolt and washer from the center of the clutch going up into the engine crankshaft and slide it off the shaft. It is quite heavy so be careful when it comes free.

Also, unplug the wires connected to the bottom of the float-bowl. Just wiggle the plug loose off the bottom of the bowl.
These are 12 volt powered when the ignition is on. Put your key in the ignition and turn it to ON. * DO NOT ATTEMPT TO START THE MOWER.*
With the key in the ON position, use a volt meter and test for 12 Volts
to the terminals of the plug. The Grey is Positive and the Black is Ground.
You should see 12 volts to this connection which powers the Fuel Shut-off solenoid. This solenoid shuts off fuel when you turn off your mower to prevent backfires (IMO-doesnt work!) If you dont see 12 volts, check the plug on the opposite side of your mower where the Grey and Black wires go to. We have had several of these connections fail due to corrosion (needs di-electric grease-Craftsman...are you listening?) Disconnect the plug and see which pins feed the Grey wire. Now test for 12 volts at the plug on the side that leads back up to the ignition switch. If you see 12 volts you know you have the same corrosion problem. Clean the pins, if you have it, a shot of di-electric grease so it wont happen again and reconnect. Test at the float-bowl connector now. Hopefully you will see 12 volts and are all set. If no voltage is at the ignition switch side of the connector you need to test the ignition switch. I believe most mowers will use a Red wire down to the connection we checked and follow that wire to the ignition switch. Tap the wire close to the switch and test for voltage. If you have voltage you know there is a break in the wire leading to the connector. If no voltage is present at the output of the ignition switch it may be time for a new one. You could test all the wires of the ignition switch for another wire that has 12 volts when the ignition is on and simply place a jumper between that wire and the Red feed wire for the solenoid. Of course this is a last resort but should work in a pinch. Good luck.

do you need to know the belt configuration for this mower ive attached a user manual that shows the configuration and all adjustments on the deck and belt...
