Question about Linksys WRT320N Wireless Kit

1 Answer

I have a model WR320N wireless router. I recently had to change from an XP machine to a Windows 7 machine. This router is 1 of two that I use for my business. The other is an 8 hub...not wireless. When I reattached the router/hub to the new computer, it went right to work. That is the good news. The bad news is, it lost my password and is now an open line. I know how to change the password and although my IPS number is slightly different than the one that is recommended, it lets me get to the page where it is asking for a password. I did reset the machine...multiple times..for 30 seconds..for minutes...unplug..plug...you get the picture...but it is not letting me use admin as the password. I won't use this without a password so at this point it is a piece of expensive junk. I have also turned off the computer, modem, wireless router, and started from scratch...still won't let me change the password. Also, when I try to reinstall with the disc...I get error 322 - not detected....although it is working like a charm. HELP!

While the unit is on, hold down the reset button on back for ~30 seconds. Don't unplug it. The default username is blank, the password all lowercase "admin" - default ip address for the router is 192.168.1.1

It is possible that, if you have the router set to wireless N only, your XP machine won't interact with it. Your XP adapter probably doesn't support wireless "N"--you'll have to tell the router to use "N" or "G"

I have drivers for windows vista but they can not be installed on windows 7. I need install my router on windows 7

If you have the Windows Vista or Windows XP driver, try installing in Compatibility Mode. Here's a tutorial I've posted recently (click HERE.), but please select Windows Vista instead of Windows XP. There isn't problem even if you select Windows xp, but since it's windows vista driver, that should work perfectly.

Let me know if you need further help.

Good Luck.

If you have Windows 7 you will run into some problems you need to go to Linksys.com and download the most recent driver and then try you will most likely have to unistall the other driver.

Wireless G Plus MIMO (F5D9230-4) Router (1010835): can I set up WAp or Wap2 securety on win 7....

You can set up wireless security on the router.
If you have Windows 7 computer, you can use WPA or WPA2 security on the router.
It is better if you set up WPA. that will work with windows Vista anbd windows XP also.
Is there any computer connected to the router ?
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router.
Do not change any wireless settings on the router with the wireless computer.
you will need to connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
check the IP address of the computer.
open the router set up page of the router.
Here you can change the wireless settings of the router.
Now once you change the network anme and security on the router, you will need to connect to the wireless network on your wireless computers.

Have you had a look on the firewall website for a suitable firewall system that compliments windows 7?
I had to download a new one myself when I went from Windows XP to Windows Vista.

Sometimes changing systems means you should also change your firewall, then you'll have the most up-to-date software going. Plus it won't slow your computer down like it doesn't sometimes.
Hope I helped Dr Reed

You need to setup your new homegroup settings on your Windows 7 PC. Once you set this up you can copy to all your windows XP computers. This will put all the computers in sync. You can find the homegroup by going to the start menu and searching for homegroup. Please let me know if you have questions.

Wireless router

The answer to both your questions is yes. The laptop and the 98 does not care what router they are pluged into, the settings on them will not be affected. Only if you change the adaptors on the the 98 or your XP's will the 98 or XP need any adjustment. (unless you change the WEP key, then it is just a matter of putting the new WEP key in the xp and 98 machines.)
