Question about Sharp Office Equipment & Supplies

I have a Sharp SF-7900 copier. After clearing a paperjam, I am getting a n H4 error. I understand that this is because it is not getting up to the proper temperature. How do I diagnose the exact cause?

Should the fan be running at startup, or does it only come on when it gets warm?

  • beararms2 Mar 15, 2011

Holding down the copy button does not give an additional sub code.

  • beararms2 Mar 15, 2011

The code you gave to clear the trouble code works, but it comes right back as soon as you power it back on. I think the fuser was disconnected when I tried to clear the jam, (power was on) that is when the trouble began. How do I check the fuser assembly to see if it is ok?

  • beararms2 Mar 15, 2011

Any way to check the fuser?

  • beararms2 Mar 16, 2011

Is there a schematic or diagram online I can look at?

  • beararms2 Mar 16, 2011

Got any instructions on how to do that?

  • beararms2 Mar 17, 2011

Does the entire fuser assembly need to be replaced, or one of it's components?

  • beararms2 Mar 17, 2011

I have already pulled the fuser assembly out and cleaned it, however it is not getting hot or even warm like it should. ???

  • beararms2 Mar 18, 2011

I assume trying to pull the fuser assembly out with the power on most likely created the problem. Which of the three items you mentioned would have been most likely damaged by this action? Would all three keep it from getting up to temp? As I mentioned, the fuser rollers are no longer getting warm or hot to the touch with the power on.

Hi,
to solve this problem perform the following procedure:-
It is not H A It is h4.It is power error code. When your copier heater lamp is not on then show it.

This error indicates a problem with the fuser on the machine. You will need to replace the fuser unit and reset the code. The fuser is fairly simple to get out, you will need to remove the back cover and the jam access door on the right side of the machine. At that point, the fuser is simply held in with three screws and a connector.
To reset the code you have to go into service mode by pressing this sequence of keys ("C" -> "Exposure" -> "C" -> "Exposure"). You will need to press them fairly quickly, about a second between each press, and confidently. You will know you are in service mode because the display will change to "--" and flash. At this point, enter "14" as though you were making 14 copies, and press the green start button, then press the "CA" key to exit service mode. The machine will begin restarting itself and if the problem is resolved it will come to ready.

These machines were notorious for giving H4 errors randomly and without a real reason, so I would suggest that you try resetting the code one time before calling it in for service. If the code comes back after you reset it once, or comes back on a fairly regular basis (meaning more often than once a month), I highly recommend calling a professional repair technician in for service.

Thank you for using fixya

Normally to clear the H4 error we replaced the fuser lamp, and you would also need to check the thermistor and rectifier. That was a few years ago though, and I mention this as I know it was already becoming difficult to find parts for the copier. I do not have the service manual for this copier anymore, but if you do, you will see that the thermistor and rectifier are part of the fuser control board.

Hi,

The H and 4 error is a Fuser related issue. The fuser is the heated roller than seals the toner onto the paper.Unfortunately, the the only way to check it by looking at it visually or putting your hands close it by.However, be advised you might hurt yourself you are not experienced enough to work on these printers. However, as a matter of fact H4 is more often related with the Fuser. As resetting doesn't help the cause, as it came back, replacement is the only option left.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

For any fuser error, the first thing that should be done is replacing the fuser. If the error still shows up after wards, it could be the LVPS (Low voltage power supply) or a board.

You don't have to replace the assembly. The Fuser has to be replaced.

I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. If you want to do it yourself:
To remove the fuser, complete the following steps.

Turn off the device, and then disconnect the power cable.

Rotate the locks on the fuser to the unlocked position.

    1: Rotate the locks

Grasp the fuser handle and pull the fuser assembly from the device.

    2: Pull the Fuser assembly

The parts on the internal surface of the fuser are very hot. To avoid from heat, do not touch those parts.
    Using
both hands, slowly and steadily remove any print media from inside the
device. Then, carefully reinsert the fuser and secure the locks.

Reconnect the power cable, and then turn on the device.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

It is power error code. When your copier heater lamp is not on then show it.
Just replace this component to make everything working again.

There are only 3 causes to it.
    Heater lamp open
    Defective installation
    of thermistor
    Thermostat
    open

The cooling fan goes bad and generates false signals. Replace the fan if everything else checks good. It may also cause intermittent power failures "machine goes dead".

Either the fuser did not heat up in time. If you hold down the copy button it will give you a 2 digit sub code (01, 02, etc). Check your lamp to see if they are coming on.

Hope helps, good luck.

On SF-7800, H4 causing of power interrupting or high voltage

It is a fuser temperature error or one of the sensors is dirty. You
could try removing the fuser assembly - ensure power is switched off-
then try cleaning the sensors as they tend to get paper dust and melted
toner which collects between the surface which senses the heat from the
fuser `Hot` roller. if this does`nt fix it you may need to replace the
fuser. There is also an engineer code that you can enter to clear the
fault so if you know of a friendly sharp copier engineer.

Try this reset procedure... to remove this error
press "C" "interrupt key" "0" "interrupt key" The machine goes
off then press number 14, switch off machine then switch on.

It isn't fixing part, the fuser assembly is the part that uses pressure and heat to melt the
toner to the actual paper. It consist of gears, bushings, heat rollers,
pressure roller, paper pick fingers and other components, If you business class Ricoh, Sharp, Canon,
Gestetner, Savin and other copier printer scanners then the fuser
assembly is rebuilt then majority of the time. Other cases, if you have
an HP laser printer, Lexmark printer then for the most part you change
the entire fuser assembly. Check in this link for parts replacement: sharp/parts/fusers_sharp.

I own a sharp SF-7900. My pages are coming out black

I'm sure you may find a manual, but your copier is rather old.... When you make a copy do you get a error code? How about when you make a copy, do you see the scanning lamp turn ON? Here is you thing you can try, make sure the Primary Corona unit is pushed in all the way in. It has a grey handel on it and it should be found right above the Drum... Good Luck
