Without knowing your specific model or operating system, If you want to set your printer to print in only black and white, you can right click the printer under your pinters & devices and change the setting there.

Hp4680 printer how do i print in black ink only?

You should select color or grayscale from the computer, rather than trying to do it in the printer. Instead of hitting print immediately, go through print preferences or print preview. You can also set black and white as the default from this view.
On a PC, Start-Control Panel-Devices and Printers-select your printer-then go into the properties and select black and white only.

Panasonic Printer prints wrong colour. The documents have grey letters, but the printer prints them black!

It is possible that printer setting is set to print in black and white instead of color. You will only be able to see the gray color when printer is set to print in color.
Assuming you are using windows 7 go to Devices and printers, right click on your printer, go to properties and change the settings.

For any further clarification feel free to revert.

Hello, i cant print\copy. i get a message about empty cyan and yellow ink but i only wanted to print in black. do i have to change the other colors to print in black (which is full)?

Check the printer options or settings, Click Print and then on the pop up window before you print, instead of color select print mode as black and white. Then try again and see, if it does print try removing the colored cartridge and see if it prints. If it fails again you will need to play around with the options and quality of the printout.

My daughter's NX400 is running out of color ink even though she prints mostly black&white. She says it looks like it is printing black text with a combination of all colors instead of with black ink....

I had an epson. Hardly use the colors, because i was printing only in black.
Sent an email to Epson, and they did respond back.

It will definately use the color ink, even though
you're printing only in black.
Go Figure!

Good Luck.
PS
I now have an HP and Brother

I think you could change this in your printers settings. go to printers ->righclick on your printer and then preferences. there you should find your color settings. put it to color instead of black and white

How do i get my printer to print in color instead of always black?

make sure you have a reasonably full color cartridge in the printer and check its color settings. start, control panel, printers, right cilck your printer and go to properties..make sure its not set to black and white. Also in the program you're printing from, click on print (dont use the print icon that auto-prints)..so file, print and make sure theres no options set there that are also set to black and white. if the printer has an lcd screen on it with a menu, you can also look there for settings.

DOES NOT PRINT IN BLACK

This may sound a bit dumb, but believe me as a tech support specialist, I have seen it happen. If you are trying to print a document, what color do you have set for text? I had a lady who wanted the text to be white on blue on the screen in Word and instead of setting it with a blue background and "auto" text, she set the text as white. White print on a white background (paper) doesn't show up...:-)
