Question about Microwave Ovens

2 Answers

Has a GE Microwave, model JTP86WSH6SS; Its microwave/oven combination; the Microwave LED quit; checked and found power going to the LED smartboard but still nothing on the LED. Replaced the smartboard, part #WB27T10463, but still didn't get anything from the LED. Wants to know if they're doing something wrong or if there's something they're not aware of.

I have already checked the fuse, so I know it is good. I will check the door switch and thermostat when I get home tonight. When I check these items, am I just check for current or a certain amount of voltage?

    thanks, Bob

No continuity in part #463 Thermostat ( this part was replaced about six months ago when I replaced the magnetron asm.) All other parts (562,576) has continuity.

Hi

The control board seems to be fine...please check this diagram...the first thing to check is the fuse (part#562), if that is fine then check the door switch (part#576) and the thermostat (part#463). Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Hi, well the most usual thing to fail, & stop a MW is the Magnetron and or the High Power Diode, faulting. This often also causes the power supply to be damaged and this too is then involved.
as with any electronic device, one MUST fix, and or ensure that the Power Supply is working 100% as if this isn't working OK, then nothing else can be.
One must also be very careful when servicing MW's as there is a Main Capacitor that stores an enormous amount of energy, and in fact kill many. many, experienced service people every year, it only takes a moments inattentiveness, and contact with the cap's terminal, and it can and is lethal, so one MUST discharge the Capacitor with a grounded shorting bar, each and every time it is powered ON/OFF.
To have any type of success also one simply again must obtain a service manual, this gives one the troubleshooting steps, and the parts numbers too, and in fact is invaluable.
Also one must be careful, that one doesn't exceed the economic value of the unit.
most often it is cheaper and safer in the long run to use a professional to repair MW's anyway it can never hurt to obtain a "Quote" for the job and go from there.

I have a GE JVM2070 microwave oven that runs for a few seconds and then shuts down. I was told by a repair person that it was the smartboard. I replaced it ($200) and same problem. When it shuts down...

Sorry you found an ignorant repair person!

You have a failing (noisy) magnetron.

You should first return the unneeded circuit board.

Then see this FixYa solution even though your model number is different.

GE microwave will not come on. No light no control panel.

The door light is usually controlled by a relay on the control board, not just the door switch.

We regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so with a one-year guarantee.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

First, order by number. Some illustrations are general. Second, you may find a board rebuilder who will fix yours or exchange it.

I've done this and found that the correct product was sent and worked well.

Found this posted in GE instead of DeLonghi but the basics are the same.

You say it stopped working - you mean it runs but doesn't heat?

Microwave will not heat

If all controls on the panel work fine but the microwave does not heat, then either you have a defective door switch, the smartboard is defective, or you have a defective magnatron. Most likely one of those three.
