I would recommend that you take a hair dryer, and start to thaw the ice. Once you have removed the ice, I would recommend that you dry the compartment, so the new ice will not stick, and you will be back in action.

Stumped by Damper Control malfunction symptoms

U seem to have a good handle on things but the flapper door is still not operating properly. Rather than create more agita for yourself, you just might want to consider replacing the assembly if not that expensive. OR experiment with various flapper door openings till you get a more reasonable refrig temp since 25 is too low. Aim for 35 - 38 degrees.

If your fridge is left open over night and it wasnt closed till morning and the alarm light does stop flashing when it is closed what does that mean?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

FYI... The door alarm will sound anytime the door is left open for more than 4 minutes.

Per your post... What it means your refrigerator is working normally.

However... there is the possibility of having excess ice build up on the evaporator coils from the door being open all night. If the freezer section starts warming up due to poor airflow you may have to do a manual defrost. You would first notice the lack of ice production or soft ice cream if there were air flow problems due to excess ice on the evaporator coils.

To do a manual defrost all you do is:
1. Unplug the unit
2. Remove freezer contents
3. Use a fan directed at the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours (makes a water mess)
4. Reload the freezer
5. Plug in the refrigerator

Everything should be back to normal in just over 4 hours except ice production that can take up to 8 hours.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

I have a GE side by side GSS25JFMC. The freezer was left slightly open overnight. I noticed it this morning and closed it. When I came back, everthing was frozen up in the freezer so I removed panels and...

There is no reset on that model. I also don't think leaving the door open had anything to do with what happened. You will need to check both sides of the main control board located on the rear of refrigerator for burn marks or signs of heat damage. Part number WR55X10942
The main board does all the thinking on your refrigerator. Not many thing on that board that is not turned on or off. Unplug first and inspect board an let me know what you find. If board is OK then we will need to check the start relay and start capacitor down near the compressor. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Freezer door pops open.

normal operation actually, gaskets are designed to seal door closed not to hold them closed, first off check the items on the shelves make sure nothing stick to far out preventing good the refrig should be tilted slightly back. to aid in the doors swinging closed( the should close automatically form 45 degrees.)ok for them to "pop" open so long as they close back shut. this works on top freezers and bottomr freezer refigs, sidex sides use a differnet system of closing, if htats the case look into replacing door closures(cams) located under hte door assy
