Paper comes out creased most of the time but not always. Could it be the toner or paper? We bought cheap paper last time.

Not very likely that the toner is causing this issue, try quality paper and see if the condition continues.

If the toner leaks, it will deposit on the fuser roller/ film leading to improper (non-linear) movement of paper which causes creasing. Remove the black deposits from fuser roller/ film. Creasing problem will be solved. Creasing can also occur due to trapped paper fragments ( due to wrong way of paper removal leading to torn paper). Always use minimum 70gsm paper of best quality with low moisture.

How do I fix creases in the paper being printed

Sounds like your fuser needs some maintenance. These are wear and tear machines.

When I use card stock on my Xerox 6180 printer the toner doesn't always stick to the paper

1 You need to make sure the weight of the media is within the limits set by the manufacturer. You can probably get away with a bit heavier, but not much heavier.

2 You need to make sure that you choose the correct media/paper type in the printer driver. The thicker the media, the longer it takes for the heat to 'soak' through to the toner side. choosing the correct media type slows the transport through the fuser (or increases the temperature - depending on the printer type - so that correct fusing can take place.

3 Excessive moisture content can cause fusing issues like this.

4 Remanufactured, or 'compatible' toner cartridges that have the WRONG or poor quality toner powder also cause fusing problems that can even bee seen on 80gsm paper, but will be obvious on thicker media. There ARE good remanufactured toner cartridges, but if a toner cartridge is very cheap, it ;s LIKELY to have poor toner powder in it (the correct toner powders are 2-3 times more expensive than the cheap stuff).

5 Finally it IS always possible that the fuser just isn't getting up to temperature properly. This can be caused by a failed heat lamp - with age the can blacken in patches, 'holding back' the heat.

Creased paper

Check the Fuser (rubber roller usualyl a pain to get too with out tools) for caked toner. You will more than likely have to get the printer serviced if it was badly contaminated with toner.

Canon GP 225, When using the photocopier function on this machine the copies are coming out with a crease on them, almost even a fold in the paper, the machine is not jamming however and the paper comes...

This crease is most likely caused by the paper buckling just before it enters the fusing unit. The fuser is the part that gets hot just before the paper exits the machine. I would check the "ramp" that guides the paper into the fuser. They sometimes get toner build up that the paper catches on. If the paper does not go straight and flat into the fuser you will get a very tight crease or z-fold in the paper due to the heat and pressure applied to the paper to fix or "fuse" the toner onto the paper.

Old LaserJet 4L working perfectly. Just bought new generic toner cartridge and now getting shading over entire page, turning paper an almost-even gray, darkest at left edge. I'm suspecting cheap cartridge...

You're right about the cartridge and I suppose cleaning it means all the toner that the generic cartridge dumped. Turn off the machine, take out the cartridge and use a vacuum cleaner and a soft brush to get that extra toner out. After that use a soft cloth (not terry) to wipe down the inside.

Paper is crumpled, toner is not adhering in certain areas

The fuser is shot....this is the unit that uses heat and pressure to fuse the toner to the page. It is primarily when the pressure roller wears that you get crinkling and bad fusing, but I'm sure the upper sleeve has seen better days as well.
These days it is (sadly) cheaper to replace this printer with a new little HP -only around $100 or so.

Black smudge marks on our prints.

If you are using a generic brand of toner, this could be the problem, and if so, your developer is shot, and the drum unit will need a thorough service.
Otherwise, it is very likely that the Drum (PCU) needs replacing, or fuser is failing.
Whatever the cause, it requires a technician.

Xerox Phaser 7400

That is caused 99 percent of the time by the fuser.
There is a solid aluminum roll and a silicon rubber ( pressure) roller in the fuser. The pressure roller either developes some flat spots from park ( non running) time and over time heat and use cause it to deform and become out of round. What then happens is when the paper enters the fuser it does so with a slight twist, and the pressure of the fuser, for lack of a better term, Irons in that crease during the fusing process.
Gave the explaination so you would understand what is happening.
