The spindle connecting the volume control knob to the control itself has broken. Does the whole assembly need to be replaced? I don't have the old spindle.

Do you mean the spindle on the back of the round knob? If this is the case then you simply need a new knob from the manufacures as the bit that fits over the pin coming out of the machine is a one peice moulded item. If you are very nice to customer services at Kenwood, they may send you one for free. Next time be a wee bit more careful not to knock the control knob as it is quite delicate.

IF on the other hand it is the volume spindle couming out of the unit, then yes this is a whole item replacement. This will need to be repaired by either a accredited Kenwood repair agent or a competent repair shop depending on whether this item is still under gaurantee or not.

The volume knob doesn't work properly, with both directions turning the volume up (or both turning it down).

The volume control assembly probably has dirt/dust built up can clean the control with an electrical contact cleaner that is safe on plastics (ask your retailer ). You will need to remove the cover to gain access to the volume control assembly. Once the cover is removed you can spray the cleaner into the control assembly. Whilst your in there you may want to clean any other controls. Make sure you let the cleaning agent dry thoroughly before you power the unit back up. Another possibility is (if the above dosen't solve it) the control itself has become defective and will need to be replaced

The spindle for the climate control knob has broken off; it needs to be replaced. How difficult is this? Can I do it myself? Or, how many labor hours should my Volvo garage charge?

its pretty easy to get the unit out but you cant buy the spindle itself.but those units are notorious for going bad, so a volvo tech just may have one laying around that you can get the spindle out him on the side too install it.DONT LET SERVICE PERSONELL HEAR YOUR CONVERSATION! it should not be more than one hour labor

Replace upper ball joint 2003 silverado 1500

The ball joints on both 2wd and 4wd upper are pressed in you need to remove snap ring and using a hammer pop out the old one out this is after you seperate the upper arm from the spindle. To install the new ball joint you should use a ball joint press that you can rent at most autoparts shops

Erratic volume

Either the potentiometer which sits behind the user knob has got a broken track or it is full of debris

You can buy a tin of Servisol switch cleaner (or similar, make sure it has a lubricant in it and that propellant does not harm plastics) take off the knob and give it a good squirt where the spindle of the potentiometer enters the cabinet

Give the spindle a few full rotations and another dose of cleaner , then give it a try

It is best if you take a cover off and apply the cleaner direct to the potentiometer

Blue Hat Company Mp3's volume dosen't work

You may try resoldering all of the connections on the volume knob circuit board. If one of the potentiometer (volume control) connections has broken free of the board, it may not be noticeable, but may hold the component off the board just enough to cause the problem you're having. If that doesn't help, the problem is most likely in the potentiometer itself, and you won't be able to replace it easily.

(If you are going to replace the whole player, I've heard that the sweetpea 3 is a better device. My Blue Hat is still working after making some repairs, so I haven't tried the Sweetpea yet...)

Yamaha RX-V800 volume knob on receiver not working.

It sounds like the volume control pod has gone bad and needs replaced (The knob shaft connects to the pod main body and the inside of the volume pod is what controls the rate of volume,If the inside becomes worn ,broken or dirty the volume will become erratic) Replace volume pod ! ..You may try cleaning by taking off the volume knob and getting a can of pressure air and blowing the dust out!

Volume control on unit

Kent, Unfortunately, it sounds as if the encoder is broken. The encoder is a digital input which takes the place of a traditional volume control, and is what holds the volume knob in place and spins. Since it works fine with the remote, that means everything else is ok, but you will have to replace, or have a tech replace, the encoder itself.
