Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines
If this is a top load washer and you hear the motor running during these cycles you most likely have a broken drive coupler you will have to remove the front of the machine by first lifting the console here you will find two spring clips pop them out with a screw driver then pull the housing top towards you and then out at the bottom remove the two clips holding the pump to the motor and move to the side. it is not nec. to disconect hoses. remove the two screws and clips holding motor disconect wiring and remove motor you will see drive drive coupling you local parts distributor will have a replacement coupler. and are not hard to replace. use a drift and tap in the center when installing to make sure you dont damage the hub reinstall motor and pump and casing and test . if motor is not running you may just need a new lid switch .
